Free T3 not being converted properly? Results back from Blue Horizon. Help much appreciated!

THYROID STIMULATING HORMONE 1.30 mIU/L (0.27 - 4.2

)

FREE THYROXINE 17.3 pmol/l (12.0 - 22.0

)

FREE T3 3.6 pmol/L (3.1 - 6.8)

Can somebody please remind me where these numbers should be again? I'm guessing the low free T3 explains why I have been suffering from internal shaking/buzzing for the past couple of months?

I have a blood test at my doctors next Weds, so will find out my ferritin, B12, folate etc then.

The aim of a treated hypo patient generally is for TSH to be 1 or below or wherever it needs to be for FT4 and FT3 to be in the upper part of their respective reference ranges when on Levo if that is where you feel well.

You could do with an increase in your Levo to get your TSH down and raise your FT4 which is only 53% through range. Your FT3 is only currently 13% through it's range which shows you're not converting very well. However, good conversion depends on optimal nutrient levels so see what your new vitamin/mineral results are - post them on the forum for comment.

Are you also having Vit D tested? I think you should because looking back at your previous posts I see that a year ago your level was 63.7 nmol/L which was low. The Vit D Council, the Vit D Society and Grassroots Health all recommend a level of 100-150nmol/L so at the time of that result you should have supplemented to raise your level to that recommended and then keep it there with a maintenance dose.

Thanks Susie. I think I might have to have my vit D it tested again then (my surgery don't test for it). Do you think I should wait to see what my other results are first from the surgery before asking to increase Levo dosage (I'm taking 100), or ask to increase first? I have a docs appointment the day before my blood test.

If your surgery is testing thyroid as well as then wait and see what their results are. If they only doing vitamins and minerals then I'd see if you can get an increase based on these results. The FT4 needs to come up, definitely.

I had my thyroid tested before doing my own finger prick test - but it was only TSH so no use really. I'll get my blood test done next Weds and see what those results are first then. I really do suspect my ferritin/iron might still be low - particularly as I have endometriosis too. Sometimes this all seems so confusing, and I suffer badly from brain fog and forget what I've had done, and when - and forget what I'm supposed to then do about it! I'm still so tired all the time, and have been suffering badly from endo pain. I wish I had an understanding doctor that would actually help me.

Can I ask where the best place is to order a vit D finger prick test? x

I always do a fingerprick blood spot test with City Assays vitamindtest.org.uk/

£29 and result is back within 3-4 days normally.

Thriva are gaining some traction with their testing system. Although they talk about subscriptions and repeat tests, you can start/suspend subscriptions at any time. They're doing a 50% off code on a couple of their test packages.
