Don't lose hope thyroid sufferers and a huge thank you to this life saving community

Dear community

I want to say thank to everyone I've met on this forum.

Whether it's been advice given, info I've gleaned from other posts & investigated to help me further understand.

I've never been on hormone treatment before and now been on NDT for 6/7 weeks. It's making a real difference & I can say I'm recapturing little pieces of my soul.

I truly don't know where I'd be without this forum, it is saving my life.

For anyone who's not coping, keep talking to this fab group of people & inform yourself because understanding what's happening to you takes the fear away.

Unending thanks to everyone & I wish everyone the best health possible. Paula

Now it is my turn to thank you for your positive post Paula101. This is the bit I liked 'understanding what's happening to you takes the fear away.' How true this is, education is the key and who best to advise than others in the same position.

I was unwell for 2 years before I was diagnosed by accident. My then GP ordered a TFT to humour me because I had the same symptoms as my hypothyroid mother but he 'doubted it would show anything up'. He telephoned me at 7.30pm two days later to apologise and to ask me to go to see him the next day. Apparently my TSH was 52!! although this didn't mean much to me back then (30+ years ago). Anyway he asked me how I felt ( my haemoglobin was 6 and I was severely anaemic, on the verge of needing a transfusion). I told him honestly I already felt 50% better knowing there was a reason for how ill I felt. So your comment is so true, understanding certainly does take some of the fear away.

You're so right, the people who can advise best are the ones in your position. Non thyroid sufferers can be as sympathetic as they like but bless them that's about all. Goes for any situation really.

You mention finding out there really is a reason for being ill is a relief & I agree. I remember hugging, kissing, crying & thanking the Dr who helped me on the thyroid journey. He wasn't expecting that response 😉

To have it confirmed that I wasn't going mad and that I absolutely knew there was something not right, had me dancing a jig😀

I've been so happy with the advice on this forum, I've never gone to my GP about it.

Look after yourself M.
