Mini pill and thyroxine

I’ve just had a nightmare at the doctors, left so upset and literally not getting anywhere. Anyway.... my question is I’m on the mini pill Desogestrel but since taking it I’ve had lots of hypo symptoms which seem to be getting worse and wondered if it could be the pill causing this? The dr won’t increase my thyroxine so I’m trying to find solutions.

Thank you

I know that the combined pill can definitely have an effect on your uptake of Levo but not too sure about the progesterone only pill. Generally I think once you take birth control with your Thyroid hormones your dosage generally needs to be monitored and increased most of the time. Did he re-check your T4/T3 and TSH levels after you told him your having symptoms?

No, flatly refused because my TSH levels we’re normal, although they are over 2. I explained that the NHS recommends the levels to no more that 2 but she stated is depends on the lab. She refused to accept my symptoms.....stating I must be depressed and suffer from anxiety

Thats terrible. I hate the way they just go straight to you must have anxietly or be depressed instead of investigating further. You might need to get private blood testing done just so you can get those levels checked and also vitamin levels as anything such as Low Iron or vitamin D will cause Hypo like symptoms too.

Really sorry to say this - I'm 67 years old now - so fairly wise. Any type of contraceptive pill is going to mess your body / hormones about. After only a couple of years on The Pill, I came off it as I was so scared. Henceforth I only used the Cap or sometimes the Coil, although the former is by far the best option for not messing with your body.

Thank you, I’m going to come off it as I think having the implant was the trigger for hypo. I have tried the pill again because condoms was risky (2 child is enough). It’s so frustrating that I have no trust in my doctor who has told me under no circumstances could it be the pill and definitely won’t make a difference coming off it. Thank you for your reply.

The female 'cap' is ok; they are strong rubber !

Yup, my mother used one and nothing else for many years and only had me. But not very good for being spontaneous and can cause problems with gel on the ceiling! Fake progesterone is bad for you whatever, but I appreciate that there's little choice these days.
