Starting thyroid s
Gosh I have done this but nearly 3 years ago but at the time I was only on Levo but I seem to remember I stopped Levo and stated adding in half a grain every (? 2 weeks) up to two grains and then increases of a quarter grain. I actually missed my sweet spot doing this at it turned out to be 1.75 grains! I remember panicking a little stopping Levo but remembered I would have a store in my body that would be decreasing as my NDT increased. I was advised to follow the STTM book ( Stop the Thyroid Madness ) so I'm sure if you search on here then more can be found to help you. As your body is familiar with taking T3 already then it should be easier to switch over but I'm not sure how to convert what you are already taking into equivalent grains so you can start at that level. Hopefully someone can advise on that.
Are you otherwise healthy and fit? If so I was advised by my consultant to just switch to the equivalent dose overnight. I didn’t and followed the STTM protocol and wished I hadn’t as I felt horrendous waiting for the dose increase. If you’re not though and have issues with your heart etc then yes take your time. We are all different and it also depends on your lifestyle. I have 2 small children so can’t afford to be off duty 😀
I agree with the previous comments about feeling worse if you start on a lower equivalent dose, though it may be a safer option for some of those new to additional T3.
Your Thyroid-S 60mg tablets contain 38mcg T4 and 9mcg T3, so taking 75mcg Levothyroxine plus two tablets of Thyroid-S would be slightly more of both T4 and T3 than what you're currently taking.
