I am 68 and for the past 3 weeks I have been boiling hot and its got nothing to do with the very hot weather in the UK in fact I cant stand to be in the sun I have a overactive thyroid and I believe this is causing this my doctor has done blood test and its come back that I need viiaminD but I am unable to take this has my one kidney has difficulty in break these down so I am thinking of taking vitamin D3 instead.

I am going soon to see the doctor at my hospital to discuss all this, this is making me feel so ill I am fine when the weather is dull and I am praying for some rain,

Welcome to our forum Debs10

It is most probably due to you being hyperactive as it causes our body to increase its energy.

Do you have your blood tests at the very earliest, fasting (you can drink water) and those who have hyperthyroid will respond.

Can you get a print-out of your most recent results, with the ranges and post them for comments. If you don't have them today, put them onto a new post.

Those who have hyperthyroidism will respond when they read your post.

Not sure what you're saying about vit D. Vit D3 is the one you should be taking if your vit D is deficient. So, why do you say you can't take it, then say you're thinking of taking it? Was there a typo in there somewhere? :)

Because of being born with only one kidney I haven't been allowed to have vitamins most of my life.I had some blood test`s done at my doctors and one came back that I needed Vitamin D but I am not allowed this.so I thought I would take ViaminD3 has this would help my thyroid but I would need to be monited to check if my poor old kidney was up to it.

Oh, I see, you mean you're thinking of taking it despite your kidney problem. I thought you meant you were thinking D3 was some sort of vit D substitute. Yes, you would need monitoring. Do your doctors understand that? :)

Renal patients are usually given Alfacalcidol which is an anologue of vitd so bypasses the kidney issue.

It may be due to the combination of an overactive thyroid and the hot weather. Hyperthyroidism makes you more sensitive to hot weather. You may be using less thyroid hormone if you’re less active in the hot weather and may use less to maintain your metabolism due to the hot weather too. The result may be an increased degree of hyperthyroidism.

This is why I have made appointment to see my doctor at the hospital.

My doctor at my surgery said it wasn't anything to do with my thyroid without even doing any test for it,but I have had it long enough know to now it has.

So I am off to the hospital to tomorrow and then on Wednesday going to see my gp too.

I cant go on like this as its making me feel so ill.

Ps I have never been able to tolerate hot weather,i have very pale skin.

Hello Debs10,

It would be very helpful if you can post your thyroid lab results with the ranges .Your FT's RT3 TSH and your vitamin results like Vitamin "D" B-12 /folate , Iron levels/ferritin . It would be very helpful to figure out what needs tweaking .

Personally when my FT4's get high I get very hot .

You are entitled to your results and all you should need to do is ask for them. There should be no charge.

Typically, they will not be offered to you.
