I am hoping to start NDT soon but know I need to get my Vit D and Ferritin level up first. Can anyone advise what sort of daily dose I should be taking of each and for how long I should take them before starting NDT ??
Thanks 😊

You shouldn't be self supplementing with that level. Low ferritin suggests iron deficiency anaemia. So you need a full blood count. You also need an iron panel because if your serum iron is high and ferritin is low then you have to be careful about taking iron.
Marz posted this useful link the other day, and it shows what tests are included in the iron panel
B12 could do with boosting. An extract from the book, "Could it be B12?" by Sally M. Pacholok:
"We believe that the 'normal' serum B12 threshold needs to be raised from 200 pg/ml to at least 450 pg/ml because deficiencies begin to appear in the cerebrospinal fluid below 550".
"For brain and nervous system health and prevention of disease in older adults, serum B12 levels should be maintained near or above 1000 pg/ml."
If you want to supplement then sublingual methylcobalamin lozenges 1000mcg is what is needed, along with a good B Complex to balance all the B vitamins (eg Thorne Basic B or Igennus Super B).

Vit D - 57nmol/L (75 - 250)
The Vit D Council recommends a level of 100-150nmol/L. As you have Hashi's you could use BetterYou oral spray for best absorption. It comes in 3000iu dose and I would double dose for 6 weeks (6000iu daily) then reduce to 3000iu daily for 6 weeks then retest. Once you've reached the recommended level you'll need to find your maintenance dose which may be 2000iu daily, maybe more or less, maybe less in summer than winter, it's trial and error so it's recommended to retest once or twice a year to keep within the recommended range. You can do this with a private fingerprick blood spot test with City Assays vitamindtest.org.uk/
There are important cofactors needed when taking D3 as recommended by the Vit D Council -
D3 aids absorption of calcium from food and K2-MK7 directs the calcium to bones and teeth where it is needed and away from arteries and soft tissues where it can be deposited and cause problems.
D3 and K2 are fat soluble so should be taken with the fattiest meal of the day, D3 four hours away from thyroid meds.
Magnesium helps D3 to work and comes in different forms, check to see which would suit you best and as it's calming it's best taken in the evening, four hours away from thyroid meds
BetterYou do a combined D3/K2-MK7 which you might prefer.

Zinc - 10.2 umol/L (9.8 - 17.9)
As far as I am aware zinc should be about half way through range. I can't suggest supplements because zinc needs to be balanced with copper so it would make sense to test copper too.
I’m currently taking 2000iu of D3, zinc and selenium plus 65mg iron and Vit C on the recommendation of another forum member a few weeks ago. Would you recommend I wait to start NDT until I am retested ?
