Help with medi check results please.

I thought I had hashimotos as I felt I was suffering a lot of the symptoms associated with it. I visited my gp who tested me and said my results were fine and it was down to depression stress and low weight.

I paid and had thyroid testing done with medi check from what I can see I have a low t3 level I think?

Can you let me know if this is right and where I should go next I started AIP diet a month ago and it had made a huge impact on my symptoms. Just confused as to what I should do now?

Did you also have vitamins and minerals checked with the thyroid tests?

Your conversion is poor and Ferritin needs to be at least 70 for conversion to take place.

You could supplement with selenium l-selenomethionine 200mcg daily as that helps with conversion.

Doctors say normal just because the result is somewhere within the range. But normal doesn't mean optimal. Can you please post the results with their reference ranges, so we can see if there are any problems.

Thank you

I've gained a copy of the blood tests the gp ran and they are :-

Serum ferritin 60ug/L 15.00-300.00ug/L

Serum folate >20.0 ug/L. >3.00 ug/L

Serum TSH level 0.55 mU/L. 0.30 4.40mU/L

Serum free T4 13.1 pmol/L. 9.00 - 19.10 pmol/L

Liver function test

Serum bilirubin level 9 umol/L. <21.00umol/L

Serum total protein 72 g/L 60.00 - 80.00 g/L

Serum albumin 40 g/L. 35.00-50.00 g/L

Serum globulin 32 g/L. 22.00-43.00 g/L

Serum alkaline phosphatase 62 u/L. 30.00-130.00 u/L

Serum ALT Level 38 u/L. 0.00-50.00 u/L

Can anyone help me to shed some light with these too please?

I think my ferritin level is low as is my TSH Level I have no idea with the liver tests tho.

I also had a bone profile and blood count run.

Your Ferritin is on the low side, for thyroid hormone to work (our own or replacement) it needs to be at least 70, better is 100-130 for females. Eating liver regularly plus other iron rich foods will raise your level.

Folate is fine.

You also need

Vit D

B12

I'm not an expert on liver tests but yours are all within range and nothing is flagged. To check further you could read through "What do the results mean" here labtestsonline.org.uk/tests... and if you scroll down to Related Content you can click on the individual tests.

TSH appears to be in a good place and TSH is a bit less than half way through range. No-one knows where our levels are when we are fit and well as they aren't tested to give us a baseline, so we can't say if those levels are fine for you or not.

Those results are very similar to your Medichecks ones, and what was significant with your private test was the below range FT3. T3 is the active hormone that every cell in our body needs. Your very low FT3 will be causing symptoms.

I can't explain it and it's unlikely that your doctor will be able to. I think you should take your Medichecks results to discuss with your GP and ask to be referred to a thyroid specialist. Be aware that "endocrinologists" generally are mostly diabetes specialists, very few are actual thyroid specialists which is what I think you need with your unusual results.

You need to get the actual results and ranges for vitamin tests

Your Total T4 is very low, your FT4 low and obviously FT3 under range

You need 25mcg dose increase in Levo

Not everyone with Hashimoto's has raised antibodies. If AIP diet is helpful then sticking on it regardless
