Please help

Hi can anyone tell me were i can buy Cytomel online. I have been on levothyroxin for 15yrs and feel no benefits what so ever. My hair is almost bold my nails are so soft and flimsy they brake all the time and never grow. Im tired all the time and still get all the normal underactive thyroid symptoms and taking levo has made no difference with me. I just want to feel like me again. Im scared to eat cos i am now 11stone over my normal pre thyroid problem weight. Im so desperate but dont want to get ripped off buying from the wrong online retailers as im on a low income and you hear such a lot about buying expensive products that never arrive. Please please help me. Im on 275mg levo and my doctors wont give me anything else due to NHS policy. If you buy your cytomel online where do you get it plz

Do you have Hashimotos ? any results with ranges ? Am only asking questions as it is possible some adjustments could be made that may begin to help you.

Do you know your levels of B12 - Folate - Ferritin - VitD ?

I agree with Marz. With such a high dose of Levo it's possible that something is preventing it from working.

Can we see results (with reference ranges) for

TSH

FT4

FT3

TPO antibodies

TG antibodies

Vit D

B12

Folate

Ferritin

If not already done, ask your GP but he may not be able to get the antibodies and FT3 done. In that case you could do a private test with one of our recommended labs, either fingerprick or venous blood draw.

Both of those cover all the tests mentioned.

Ive only ever had standard t4 and tsh leves. The only reason i know my t3 is because i put it down on the bloods form. My GP is worse than useless i sit and cry in his office as i now have fibromyalgia as well and in so much pain. Everything is just getting me so down im on 2 types of antidepresants but know that if my thyroid was sorted out id feel so much better and stop me from being so depressed. My results on last test were.

TSH 12.19

T4 9.8

T3 4.0

We need ranges to interpret your results, ranges vary from lab to lab so we can't know where yours lie within their ranges. The only thing that is obvious is that your TSH is far too high and your FT4 is slow, maybe even out of range. No way of telling where your FT3 is really but probably low.

Depression is a symptom of hypothyroidism and with your TSH I imagine you have many symptoms, TSH over 10 gives a diagnosis of primary hypothyroidism so to be treated and have a TSH of 12.19 makes me wonder what planet your GP is on. The aim of a treated hypo patient generally is for TSH to be 1 or below or wherever it needs to be for FT4 and FT3 to be in the upper part of their respective reference ranges when on Levo

We can't go any further to help you with just results for TSH, FT4 and FT3. There is so much more. We need to know if you have raised antibodies so we can rule out (or in) autoimmune thyroid disease. We also need to see your vitamin and mineral levels. If these are low then that points to an absorption problem and would give us a clue as to why your thyroid levels are so bad on such a high dose of Levo. There is no point in your GP to continue raising your dose of Levo when it doesn't bring your TSH down and increase your free Ts. He really should have referred you to an endo as high dose Levo isn't working for you, but then again most endos are pretty clueless about thyroid anyway as they are usually diabetes specialists.

There is absolutely no point in taking Cytomel (T3) at the moment. You need to have all the building blocks in place first to know that thyroid hormone of any sort can work. You then need to see how well you convert T4 to T3 and only then, if conversion is poor, will T3 be of any help.

So please arrange for those tests I listed to be done one way or another, your best bet will be with a private test because your GP wont be able to get them all done. Come back with the full set of results, include the reference ranges, and then we can start helping you to get well.

All i got was a blood result saying.

TSH 12.19 (range 0.19-4.2)

T4 9.8 (12.-22.)

T3 4. (6-8)

As I thought, FT4 is below range and FT3 is low in range, with a very over range TSH. So basically your 275mcg Levo is doing nothing for you and we need to know why.

As I said those tests are not enough. You need all the tests I listed, for the reasons given in my previous reply. You need to see the whole picture, which those tests will give, before you can go any further.

1.Vitermin & mineral levels.

2.antibodies

3. Latest thyroid function as those test results were taken on 250mg levo so need to know what it is now.

How much are the private tests do you know as like i said before on low income due to not being able to work with my health problems. X

Both tests can be done by fingerprick if you want to use that method, or you can arrange a venous blood draw if you think you wont manage the fingerprick test. Unfortunatly our freezer died yesterday so i need to look for one so my food doesnt defrost in next few hrs. So cant get the test till next week now grrrr
