I've just had another range of blood tests and now have the results. I'd appreciate some help with understanding them.

I've not been well for over three years, but over the last six months I've been feeling worse and worse. It's mostly the same symptoms but getting more severe and more frequent. I've had several water infections - my gp thinks it's inflammation of the stomach wall flaring up. Each time is more painful and lasts longer. I've had really painful, very dry eyes for the past nine years. It used to be bouts lasting a few days and then being fine for several months. Now my eyes are very sore all of the time. My vision is blurry and I think that causes my frequent headaches. Of course, my hypo has been blamed with levo and lio being reduced and then levo increased. I was more ill than ever for weeks before they were put back to previous levels.

This time my gp is concerned about my stomach problems. I'm seeing a urologist on Tuesday. I've just got my latest blood results. I had a full blood work up in June 2015 and again this time. The results have almost all increased.

Haemoglobin concentration 14.4 (11.5 - 14.8 ) previously 135 ( 115.0 - 148.0 )

Total white count 7.9 (4.5 - 13 ) 4.5 ( 4.5 - 13)

Platelet count 318 (140 - 400) 275 (140 0 400)

Red blood cell count 5.02 (3.83 - 4.98) out of range 4.66 (3.83 - 4.98)

Mean cell volume 86 ( 84 - 99) 84 (84 -99)

Haematocrit 0.432 (0.36 - 0.46) 0.393 ( 0.36 - 0.46)

Mean cell haemoglobin 28.7 ( 27.5 -32.5) 29 ( 27.5 - 32.5)

Mean cell Haemoglobin concentrate 33.3 (30.9 - 34.8) 343 ( 309.0 - 348.0)

Neutrofil count 3.88 ( 2 - 7.5) 2.05 ( 2 - 7.5)

Lymphocyte count 3.27 (0.8 - 4) 2.3 ( 0.8 - 4)

Monocyte count obs. 0.58 ( 0.2 - 0.8) 0.2 ( 0.2 - 0.8)

Eosinophil count obs. 0.12 (0.04 - 0.4) 0.1 (0.04 - 0.4)

Basophil count 0.03 ( 0 - 0.2) 0.00 (0.0 - 0.2)

I also had liver function tests this time.

Serum total protein level 66 (60 - 80)

Serum albumin level 40 ( 35 - 50)

Serum globulin level 26 ( 20 - 34)

Serum alanine aminotransferase level 70 ( <33) outside range

Serum alkaline phosphatase level 82 ( 30 - 130)

Serum bilirubin level 14 ( 6 - 42)

I also asked for thyroid antibody test:

Serum thyroid peroxidase concentration 15 ( <34)

I have had a lot of tummy aches and pains, which have been getting worse lately. I've had diarrhea constantly for the past six weeks. I feel very nauseous all of the time. I seem to have a problem with my appetite. I feel really hungry all the time. Eating does not help and I feel more sick after eating. I also have a very lose bowel, which is causing further problems. I have been a vegetarian for over 40 years. I have always had a healthy diet. I am really tired, can't concentrate. I constantly need to pass water both day and night. I'm really bloated and uncomfortable and my weight has gone up. I'm more thirsty in spite of drinking more and more water every day.

Do these results show evidence of auto immune disease? My daughter was diagnosed three years ago. I would add that I am a light drinker. I rarely drink when I am at home but do drink wine when I relax on holiday. I lost all under arm hair three years ago along with the outsides of my eye brows. Other hair has gone very thin.

I'd appreciate any help with interpreting the results and with what I should discuss with the urologist on Tuesday.

Thank you so much.

Hello you poor poppet

Firstly, don't panic, stress makes all bowel stuff worse

Secondly your bloods are fine but not what you asked them to test

Thirdly, cut the water, I was where you were last year women should drink 1.2-1.6 litres a day of all liquids, any more can be dangerous, so measure it and do not go above 1.6.. you wee all the time because you're drinking too much

Get your sugar tested, this could be sugar related

Do Dr Wilson's Adrenal Fatigue questionnaire - this could be adrenal

Cut out Gluten

My diarrhoea only stopped when they did a colonoscopy, and a Bowel CT with Contrast that both demanded strong laxatives beforehand so I think it was the emptying of my bowel that actually fixed it, maybe expelling some bug or maybe kick starting something that had gone wrong.

Back to GP and ask for TSH FT3 FT4 and TPO antibodies that will tell you if it's Thyroid

If Dr Wilsons comes out high ask GP for a Synacthen test

Do some reading on leaky gut... you may be overdoing your fibre as a veggie... I've no idea what I did to upset mine but I had 7 months of diarrhoea... thankfully gone now.
