Hello all.

My doctors change in levo are based on Thyroid function being abnormal. the only result highlighted in red is ( Serum TSH level is 0.05 miu/L 0.27- 4.20)

This result is normal range ( serum free T4 level 21.1 pmoI/L 12.00-22.00 .)

Just says on the results suggest contact consultant for advice.

What do others think.

Thank you.

Your FT4 is still in-range, so you aren't over-medicated. The TSH is irrelevant once you are on thyroid hormone replacement, unless it goes high. There is no justification for a reduction in dose.

However, you ought to think about getting your FT3 tested - privately, if your doctor won't do it - because that's the only way to know if you're converting your levo to T3. Your FT4 is very high in-range, so there's a possibility that you aren't converting very well.

Hi, it is the serum TSH that they are going by, i cannot get t3 if i need it ? is there a t3 test available, as i have asked for the test before, from my doctors.

Having a high T4 would that be a problem, and is there any indication i could be harming my body by keeping on the 150. Thanks.

Well, Not as far as anyone knows. You are, though converting more of that T4 to rT3 than you are to T3, so keeping on that dose of 150 mcg won't make you well.

Doctors are so very, very wrong to dose by the TSH, but there's no telling them! Yes, you can get an FT3 test privately, here :

thyroiduk.org/tuk/testing/p...

But it's best to do the FT4 and FT3 at the same time, so that you can compare them.

And, you can buy T3 on-line without a prescription. Just post a new question asking just that, and people will PM you their trusted sources.

I've never had a private test, so I can't answer that question. But, you will find places that do the tests in that link I gave you.

Yes, when starting T3 - at a very low dose - it would be wise to reduce the levo. I would say start on 6.25 mcg (quarter tablet) and reduce the levo by 25 mcg.

I think you are confusing T3 ( liothyroxine) the synthetic hormone with Free T3 measured in your blood. The NHS rarely test it which is why so many have private testing.

You have had very good advice in your previous post, and as Greygoose has said it's important to know your FT3 level, especially as your FT4 is so high.

In your previous post SlowDragon quoted Dr Toft's article and explained how to get a copy. Print it and show it to your GP, ask for FT3 test (or do it privately) and refuse the reduction in Levo as with those results there is no need.
