I've been on Levothyroxine 100mg for a few years (took a bit extra back in October) and have been feeling awful recently, chronic on going stressful events haven't helped. I have both antibodies raised as posted before.
I'm starting T3 (off my own back as I haven't had an Endo' referral) and appreciate a guideline for reducing Levo and starting T3 from those of you with experience (I know you're not medically qualified etc) I'd like to take a small T3 twice a day, the tablets are 25mcg so I am expecting to cut them up
Is there any difference between Tiromel & Cynomel, as these seem to be the only ones available (online from abroad) at the moment.
Here's my last 3 results (TSH lowest Oct' as I took more Levo)
Oct 2017 (over dose Levo) -----------Feb 2018------------ March 2018
I have used Unipharma and Grossman Cynomel and found Cynomel to be stronger so had to take less.
Some people say Tiromel is weaker than Unipharma, some people don't notice a difference. It seems to be very individual.
To start with I would reduce Levo by 25mcg then a week or so later add a quarter of a T3 tablet (6.25mcg) which is roughly the equivalent of 18.75-25mcg Levo. Leave at these doses for 2 weeks. If all OK you could add a second quarter of T3 (total 12.5mcg) then I would hold at that for 6 weeks then retest. If the second quarter makes you feel jittery, have palpitations, etc stop taking T3 for a few days then restart again at 6.25mcg.
Are you addressing the Hashi's by being strictly gluten free and supplementing with selenium l-selenomethionine 200mcg daily to help reduce the antibodies?
Thank you for your reply SeasideSusie, I'll give this a go and as you say retest to see the results blood wise. Yes, I've started the gluten free and Selenium advice and D3 etc so hopefully it'll all come together. I'm wondering whether allergy testing would reveal anything to avoid which could help calm my antibody attacks, but I've spent too much on tests already in the absence of NHS help. But gluten free has been proved to help the majority of Hashi sufferers so I'll stick with that. I know I have house dust allergy, and it's caused major problems in the past with ear issues after moving into houses with dusty carpets, I always replace with hard floors now.
Thanks Slowdragon, yes I've tested everything following your advice and others on previous posts thanks, my D was low so I've been on high dose, my B12 was over range so I've not been taking much of the B complex supplement I had. All my iron ferritin etc very good levels. My liver ASPARTATE TRANSFERASE - AST was high 40 range 0-31 and possibly linked to liver issue?? I'll recheck in a month or so. My antibodies are both high and increasing (65 and 929 so top of recorded over range readings) , I've ordered another Thyroid plus test to do on Monday. Been gluten free a month or so as well.
