I have an under active thyroid which is being treated. I am now on 75microgram instead of 25 I started on. I have just had my bloods taken again and am due to see the doctor next week. My concern is my hair loss. I am 59 years oldMy doctor said that when we get to the correct dose for my underactive thyroid my hair will improve. The loss is very noticeable now at the front and sides. Has anyone else had this problem and does anyone have any advise as to what I can do to help the problem go away quicker!. I take my 75 microgram Levothyroxin tablets once a day along with 3 x metformin tablets for my diabetic type 2. I also for the past 2 months have been taking calcium & vitamin D tablets 2 twice a day and A-Z multivitamins + minerals one a day. Really look forward to hearing from anyone who has the time to reply. All the best and thanks

An awful lot of people loss hair with thyroid problems. Your doctor is right that you need to get onto the right dose, and there's absolutely nothing you can do to speed that up. You just have to be patient, I'm afraid.
But, it's not just about hormones. Your nutrients also need to be optimal for your hair to grow properly. Have you had your vit D, vit B12, folate and ferritin tested? I see you take vit D and calcium, but did you get them tested first? If not, stop them now and get tested. Too much vit d is toxic. And, Calcium is a bad thing to supplement unless you have a very good reason. It's rare to be deficient in calcium in the west.
As for the multivit, you're just wasting your time and money on that. It's doubtful you'll absorb much from it for several reasons - if you give me the ingredients, I'll give you the reasons! Much better to get things tested and just take what you want, in quantities you need, at the right times, rather than a bunch of random supplements all bunched up in one pill to be taken all together.
You could try taking Biotin for your hair. But, remember to stop taking it a few days before a thyroid test, because it can skew the results.
Thank you for the advise. I will be seeing my doctor early next week and shall ask him for a record of my test results. I know I had blood test for B12 along with the thyroid and cholestrol but I have not heard of the folate and ferritin test? so I shall ask about that also.
I lost my hair at the front. I had two bald scoops in my forehead that went back to almost the top of my head. I felt desperate about it and so self conscious. It’s been eight years but, now I’m on the right thyroid medicine, those bald scoops have just about gone. I still have new hair growing too. I agree with Grey Goose. It’s important to get your vit and mineral levels tested too. Be patient. You will get it back. It just takes time. Xx
