My husband received these results today. Had radiation treatment on his thyroid over 10 years ago( so no thyroid function left now) currently been told to take 300mg Levo tablets & waiting for appointment to see endocrinologist. Constantly tired, no energy, cold, dry skin, distracted & irritable. Has anyone else had levels this high & has treatment/ what treatment helped?

High antibodies & TSH levels
Froggyd,
Your husband's TSH 38 is very high but his FT4 18 is over halfway through range so that's a bit of an anomaly. TSH is usually high because FT4 is low. Was he taking 250mcg with water an hour before food and drink and a couple of hours away from other medication and supplements every day?
Your husband must have some thyroid left after RAI otherwise thyroid antibodies would be lower/non-existant. Thyroid peroxidase and thyroglobulin antibodies are positive for autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's). There is no cure for Hashimoto's which causes 90% of hypothyroidism but your husband's hypothyroidism is obviously due to the RAI ablatement. Levothyroxine treatment is for the low thyroid levels it causes. Many people have found that 100% gluten-free diet is helpful in reducing Hashi flares, symptoms and eventually antibodies.
