Free T3

I introduced t3 along with my ndt back in December. I was taking one capsule of thyrogold & 62.5mcg t3.

I had a blood test last week.

T4 10.2 (11.0-22.6)

Serum free triiodothyronine level 8.1 (3.5-6.5)

TSH <0.01 (0.2-4.0)

How much should I reduce t3 (thyrogold contains 12.5mcg t3)

I’m not taking any ndt at the moment due to very low iron & possible adrenal issues.

Thanks

Hippyhappy234,

If you've stopped taking ThyroGold you don't need to reduce T3 dose too. 150mg TG also has 50mcg T4 in it so you won't have T4 converting to T3.

I think I have RT3 which is keeping me hypo. So I’ll stick to 62.5 mcg of t3. Do I’ll have you advice on how you think I should dose it. I’ve been doing 12.5mcg 4 x a day. Today I’ll increase back to 62.5mcg. Thanks Clutter.

Hippyhappy234,

We all have rT3. T4 converts to T3 and rT3. If you've not taken TG for over a week you won't be converting T4 to rT3.

It's hard to keep T3 away from food and drink if you're dosing x 4 daily. Three times daily is fine.

I thought t3 could be taken with food & drink ? Is it best to avoid & for how long ?

No thyroid hormones should be taken with food as it interferes with the uptake of the hormones.

Hippyhappy234,

It should be taken an hour before or two hours after food and drink. Absorption will improve so you might want to reduce dose or you may become overmedicated.

Yes you are correct, you can take liothyronine with food

Sorry, I do NOT trust that information.

For example, if you click on the tab for Professional information, it says:

liothyronine ↔ multivitamins with minerals

Moderate Drug Interaction

ADJUST DOSING INTERVAL: Concurrent administration of calcium-containing products may decrease the oral bioavailability of levothyroxine by one-third in some patients.

drugs.com/food-interactions...

Not even consistent with itself regarding the medicine being discussed.

I am not aware of any good studies which have researched the possible interactions of foods, drinks and supplements with liothyronine. Therefore I tend to consider the safest approach is to assume there is interaction and avoid taking liothyronine with anything else.
