Hi

Just got my Vitamin D test result ➡️(Vitamin D, 25-HydroxySERUM39.49) is this too low my Doc says its good and I was also recently diagnoised with Osteopenia. I have IBS-C and would like to know what type of Vitamin D to take that won't cause issues for my IBS-C.

P.s. I had Thyroidectomy 14 months ago (cancer)

Thanks

Your VitD would be better around 100 - so I would supplement with 5000 IU's during winter and re-test in the Spring/Summer. VitD is anti-inflammatory so should be good for your gut. Also take magnesium and VitK2-MK7 as important co-factors. The above link takes you to the website of Dr Myhill who gives sound advice about all the other nutrients needed to prevent osteoporosis - which she considers a lifestyle condition.

Were you prescribed any medication for the osteopenia ? -

The above sites are excellent for VitD information ....

PS I have had Crohns for almost 44 years which is linked to low VitD - just an afterthought :-)

Did you manage to read the Dr Myhill information in the link above ? If you are prescribed something please research carefully - it is better to improve matters with good thyroid levels and by following the protocol in the link above. Calcium for instance is not involved in the re-building of bone - but in the degradation of old bone - osteoclasts.

If you get Better You vitamin D mouth spray this avoids gut. You can buy 5000iu or 3000iu strength options

Retest twice yearly recommended. Once you reach required level of around 100nmol then you will need a lower maintenance dose. Trial and error what each person needs, and can vary Summer to winter

Unit of measurement is very important when talking about Vit D.

If it is 39.49nmol/L then it needs to be 100-150.

If it is 39.49Ng/ml then the recommended level is 40-60
