Hiya! I am currently trialling Thyroid S for hypo. and now taking 2 grains. I would be most grateful if anyone can assist with interpreting my latest Blue Horizon blood results. These are the first bloods I have taken since starting on the NDT.
BH have put a red alert on my TSH stating it is low and may be edging towards hyper (???). Comparing my previous results (prior to NDT), my T4 is lower (it was high normal range B4) but my T3 is slightly higher (it was barely normal range B4). My latest results are as follows:
N.R = Normal range
TSH: 0.01 N.R: mIU/L 0.27 - 4.2
Free Thyroxine T4: 13.2 N.R: pmol/l 12.0 - 22.0
Free T3: 5.2 N.R: pmol/L 3.1 - 6.8
BIG QUESTION: Am I optimally medicated now or still too low or even too high? Thoughts gratefully received βΊ
Thanks SeasideSusie. I do feel somewhat better especially allergy wise but I am not loosing weight like I'd hoped. I am taking all the recomm. supplements and take Myo-Inositol intermittently. I thought the T3 is supposed to be in the upper normal range, if so, perhaps I should increase it a little higher (?)
We all have our own sweet spot, some need a higher FT3 than yours, some would be fine with yours. What you could do is add 1/4 of a grain and see if that helps. I would keep dose changes to 1/4 grain so that you don't miss where you feel best.
Hiya! No they don't and their interpretation of the results compared to the GP are not always the same and the NHS tests are not always either, hence, why I ask for thoughts from experienced forum folk here. I only use them because I cannot get T3 checked regularly and I wanted an antibody test done which my NHS practice won't do. If you can get the tests done on the NHS, I'd say stick with that, BH are pretty pricey.
I would just raise NDT by 1/4 and then wait and see, this works for some people. I have been taking NDT thyroid s for the past two years and was over medicated on 3 per day now on two and seem to be doing well. Only time will tell I will increase by 1/4 if things change.

Thanks for that. I took an extra quarter this morning. Do you know why they would say my TSH is too low (0.01) and edging towards hyper if my T4 and T3 are not high at all? I'm confused.
Thank you for that. Looking at results with comments I rather suspected that and the same with Medichecks which I've observed aswell. Thankfully I get my FT3 done by the Endo. Could be a bit of a problem then if you want to tell your GP you are self medicating and results come back with TSH and FT4 flagged! I think GP's who know how to interpret readings once on any form of T3 are very low as well!
Yes sure, and my GP says they only look at standardised NHS tests anyway. I told mine I am self medicating and he is fine with that as long as I agree to have NHS tests as well. He said he will agree to T3 test once a year now I am taking T3 and T4 (NDT). I am glad I took the plunge and told the new GP to the very otherwise stade practice. You have to put probing feelers out with guarded questions before you actually say I am self medicating, some medics flip out. Best of luck!!!
Most GP's say the same thing regarding low TSH over medicated. T
When taking T3 it is a different result that you are aiming for i.e. feeling well again.
When I left hospital after my TT in 2015 my surgeon stated on my letter to the GP that he wanted my TSH suppressed. It has been as low as 0.005 I am well now after following all the good advice on this site and self medicate.
