My husband has recently had an NHS Thyroid function test as routine for his Lupus check. They state it's normal but I am not sure about his TSH level. Advice/thoughts would be gratefully recieved.
T4: 17 pmol/L Norm Range: 10-25
TSH: 0.71 mU/L Norm Range: 0.55-4.78
Is the TSH as it should be? I thought it should be really low? They wouldn't test his T3 so encouraging him to have it done privately.
When you put up results, you also have to put in the ranges of them. This is due to different machines being used to examine blood and they seem to all have different ranges.
To amend your post click the down arrow next to More and select edit. TSH and T4 seem o.k.
Thanks appreciate it! I did put the normal ranges (above) as stated on the results sheet. There were no other ranges. Do you think it's worth getting his T3 done with his T4 and TSH being OK? I don't understand why the NHS doesn't include T3 in the blood test as it's all related and wouldn't cost anymore to do it.
I think it is well worth for your husband to get a Free T4 and Free T3 from Blue Horizon or Medichecks. Medichecks have a special offer of some sort every Thursday.
I think TSH is fine but we should not take that as being informative, although that's all the doctors/endos look at. I shall give you some links. On the following from TUK you will see the reason the two Frees are important.
All tests have to be fasting (you can drink water) and at the earliest and allow a gap of 24 hours between last dose of thyroid hormones and the test and take afterwards. GPs seem to be told to test only TSH and T4. Not so informative.
