T3 variations

Has anybody noticed different effects of different supplies of T3. In February 2017 I started taking uni Pharma T3 at 12.5 µg per day. I had been seeing Dr Toft for several months but he refused to supply me with either T3 or NDT. I felt fantastic within a few weeks of taking the T3 my total my total T3 went from 1.4 to 2.2 the range 0.9–2 .5. I really did feel fantastic but my TSH went from 3.01 to 0.01 range 0.35-5.00. Dr Toft was not happy that my TSH was so low. He then prescribed SANOFI THYBON 20 HENNING T3 and told me to cut the pill in half and take 10mcg a day and said he wasn't sure the T3 from Greece was safe. After 8 weeks my T3 dropped to 1.6 and my TSH 0.03. I felt very underactive .

I saw Dr Toft again 8 weeks later and he said to carry on 10mcg of T3 and he then prescribed PERRIGO T3 which come in 5mcg tablets so I could take them twice a day. My T3 levels have remained consistent at 1.4 and my TSH has remained consistent at 0.02 to date. I have felt terrible my hair has been falling out I have been extremely breathless and feel underactive . Dr Toft has assured me that this is not a thyroid related he will not increase my T3 and is happy with my results as they are.although he would like my TSH to be around 1.00.

To be honest both types of T3 that doctor Toft have subscribed have made me feel no difference whatsoever. There are days I have felt that they might even be Placebo . Two weeks ago in desperation I started taking Uni-Pharma T3 at 12.5 split in half over the day and I have had loads of energy and the most important thing Is my breathlessness has gone and I have felt more alert. I could barley get up the stairs now I am running up them.

So my question is has anybody had either of the brands I have mentioned and have they seen a difference? My husband did a experiment taking the same amount of each brand over three days. He said he saw no difference in the SANOFI OR PERRIGO T3 but felt slightly hyper on the UNI-PHARMA T3. I did not tell him which one he was taking over the three days until after the experiment.

I shall have my bloods done again in eight weeks and let you know if my T3 levels have gone up.

Thanks in advance for any feedback .

Tanya_B,

Different brands use different fillers and that can affect how people absorb T3 and T4. Thybon is German T3 and Perrigo is American T3, they are not placebos. UniPharma T3 has been in short supply since April 2017 and you may not be able to get more without a prescription. Some Greek pharmacies were restricting UniPharmaT3 to one pack at a time.

Thanks for that. I have about three packs of the Greek T3 left. That's a real worry if it's now difficult to source.

Tanya-B,

You could try 15mcg Thybon or Perrigo to see whether you feel better on that than 10mcg.

I was thinking the same. I shall try that over the next few days and let you know how I get on.

This site is a gods send thank you

I managed to get my year's worth, but with rather a lot of effort, Clutter . Few pharmacies had even one packet, though Dithyron T4/T3 combination was available.

I have been on line and found a UK company selling Unipharma on line at £18 for 30 tablets. They allow payment through PayPal so that's always a positive. I shall let you know if they arrive.

Ouch! I thought the £10 a pack that my hypo holiday worked out as was bad, & that included 4 days of sunshine & some nice salads!

What part of Greece did you go to and was it easy to get them without prescription?

I need a holiday lol. It's costing me £70 a month for the ones Dr T is prescribing and I don't feel well on them at all.

Athens. More endurance test than holiday. It worked out at over 1km for every packet, & tramping the suburbs. You could probably get a Greek cruise for £840!

Odd that Dr Toft isn't taking notice that you don't feel good on the T3 he prescribes. Is there a way to get UniPharma on prescription? My GP refused a private prescription as he said he could be accused of quackery, despite acknowledging THs work for me.

My GP refused as well. I spoke to the pharmacy at murrayfieldhospital "that's where I see Dr Toft" They are going to look at the ingredients in both of the T3 he has prescribed but it will take a few day. God I hope they don't charge me 😩

Thanks for replying isn't it awful we have to source our own T3.

Your holiday sounds hellish lol x

It was lovely & warm, & also less humid, which helped reduce my aches. I did a happy dance when I got my first packet, as I was expecting none.

I hope the pharmacy doesn't charge you, though surely they ought to know the filler informatiom & anything else relevant before filling a prescription. Hope you get something that suits you soon! x

Thanks BadHare.

I will cry if they charge me , I have paid a fortune over last year...

I need heat, I need a holiday. Maybe I will try Athens 😉

I will keep you posted x

All the more reason for them not to charge. You've paid them to help you get better & they've let you down!

If only life worked that way...

Athens is lovely, & the people are too. I wish I could migrate there every winter! x

My son just met a girl from Athens and he's smitten. Maybe I will push it 😉

Warm holidays in Athens sounds perfect.

I found Uni Pharma was excellent

Then had NHS agree to prescribe. I found Mercury Pharma was weak and poor. Morningside Healthcare better, perhaps not quite as good as Uni Pharma

There's Turkish Timorel. You might try that

There is new Greek one, some people have said it's not as good as Uni Pharma

Clutter or Marz do you know if we can get Uni Pharma online with UK private prescription?

SlowDragon,

As far as I know the only way to get UniPharma is with a prescription in Greece. There is a supplier who supplies UniPharma online but she is charging £29 x 30 tablets plus p&p. She says it is expensive getting people to trawl Greek pharmacies to pick up a packet of UniPharma here and there.

The supplier who used to supply UniPharma is now supplying Ikaros Laboratoire T3. I don't think it is Greek T3.

£29 is a lot cheaper than £256 for UK stuff !

I stiil have to show my prescription locally - which is sometimes faxed through to the distributor - sometimes not.

Occasionally I can pick up the odd packet in town but supplies into Pharmacies are being kept low to prevent bulk buying.

Athens seems to be the best place to purchase without prescription - from reading here.

There is a phone number on the UniPharma packet - could be worth a call for an update 😊
