Latest blood results

Just had my annual check up and my latest results are:

T4 7.7 (range 7-16)

TSH tsh 0.991 - (range 0.38 - 5.33)

T3 who knows, they never do this!

I take 100mg of Levo a day.

I think T4 is a bit low? But TSH is possibly too low? Thoughts?

I have Hashimoto's

Did you have the earliest Blood Test possible? If you have hashi's they haven't checked your antibody levels to see if they're high or low.

Did you allow a gap of 24hours between your dose of levothyroxine and the test and take it afterwards?

Hi

test was at 12 lunch time as only one I could get a short notice, (went in for an early one week before and they forgot to do my thyroid)!!! I didnt take my levo that morning and took it after the test.

Antibodies are never tested. When I ask they say whats the point as I will always have them and the treatment plan will be the same! They did indulge me last time but the result was just Antibodies - Yes! Lol...

I wish they wouldn't show their ignorance - but on second thoughts 'yes' probably its best that they should. We, the patients, then know where we stand and get better despite their advice.

Probably the later time has not given an accurate result.

As I am not medically qualified and am not sure re the TSH being so low - hopefully another will be able to respond. However this is from TUK and may be helpful. I think with such a low T4 you are on an insufficient dose.

TSH is irrelevant once you are on thyroid hormone replacement, unless it goes high. It can go as low as it likes. But, your FT4 is much too low, and if your FT4 is too low, then so will your FT3 be. And, it's the FT3 number that is the most important, if they did but know it!

Of course, if you had the test at 12, that would explain it. The TSH would have been higher at 8 am. And, I expect you had breakfast, didn't you? Unfortunately, your doctor is probably just going to look at the TSH and say you are adequately medicated, when you obviously are not. They just know nothing about it!

Thank you.

So should I ask for another test to be done in the morning?

When I was diagnosed back in 2014 my endo said in letter to gp to be suppressed and t4 to be in upper limit. Should I remind them of this? They have looked at the result seen it’s in range and though, job done!

I’m currently battling for b12 injections as mine is 161 with a range of 150-900 and my red cell count is also low and my hemocrit is below range. Apparently though this is all fine!

The fact that I feel dead is post viral tiredness apparently 🤦‍♀️

Are you supplementing B12 at all ? If so then you will need a good B Complex to keep all the B's in balance and provide Folate/folic acid - which works with B12 in the body. Have you had VitD tested ?

Also a Full Iron Profile would be helpful ....

Hi

I am not supplementing b12 and wont be until Ive resolved this with the GP. dont want to supplement as then they have an excuse to not provide injections or further tests.

Vit D was 47 - they prescribed medication although firstly they said it was fine! Ive had low Vit D for a while and have taken meds but its gone down again.

My folate (is this iron)? was 3.9 ug/L [3.1 - 19.9]

VitD if you are in the UK needs to be around 100 - so taking around 5000 IU's would be good - along with Magnesium and VitK2-MK7.

Folate is B9 and works with B12 in the body. Needs to be mid-range - so taking a good B Complex once you have sorted out the B12 issue should help Folate/Folic Acid too.

If you have Hashimotos then it is possible you just have poor absorption - hence all your vitamins and minerals are low. Testing for PA can be hit and miss and often gives false negatives.

Full Iron Profile would reveal issues too if present ...

Thank you, this is all so helpful! You know more than my GP!!

I do need to supplement more but I never know what to take! I current take omega 3 as I have blepheritis, and selenium when I remember! Where Can I find a full list of what I should take?

I will ask for a full iron profile. I may have this, what sort of names am I looking for? I had a lot of tests last week.

Have detailed the vitamins required above in an earlier post.

labtestsonline.org

The above website will give you all the details for testing the Iron Profile - am not so knowledgeable on Iron :-(

When you have the results of the tests you had last week - post then in a new thread so more people see them and can comment. don't forget the ranges too as labs vary !
