I wonder if anyone can help, I have had really bad muscle pain in my arms, legs and hands especially my thumbs?, I was on NDT but switched to levothyroxine but nothing has changed, these symptoms came on suddenly in September and are still ongoing I have a raised CRP but T4 and TSH came back normal my autoantibodies are also normal but I have a abnormal fasting glucose too. I am currently doing intermittent fasting for weight loss and this has worked really well with nearly 3 stone lost now. The pain is especially bad in the morning and evenings and I am unable to exercise as its so bad feels like I have done a marathorn without the run!. Anybody else had this problem and should I go back to NDT? Thanks

Hi Son, I've watched a series called Betrayal basically because allopathic medicine hasn't figured how to treat autoimmune conditions unless they use steroids. There are over 80 autoimmune conditions and many different antibodies. A high CRP means you have inflammation. Besides gluten, dairy may also be a trigger. Others have mentioned corn. Is your TSH down to 1.0 on those tests? You might try eliminating trigger foods for a few weeks and see if it makes a difference.
I do t have gluten, made me itch and cough. I am cutting down on dairy. I fond that every time I have any grain, I get pains like yours. I can’t have corn or soya. Try eliminating. Some eliminations will produce immediate results but some like gluten take longer. I wish you good luck and a happy new year
I too experience pain in these areas despite apparently being optimally medicated on levothyroxine, gluten, dairy, soy free for a year. Negative results for rheumatoid/oesteo arthritis. Hoping to incorporate some T3 into meds as soon as I can source it to see if this makes any difference. The pain also increases with minimum exercise and worse at beginning of the day. As there appears to be no test to assess how effectively thyroid hormones reach our cells, perhaps some research on this long overdue and could e haled as rather more than the ‘missing link’.
Are you taking anything for the pain, as sometimes the fillers they use can upset you, I cannot take paracetamol with corn syrup in as that causes problems, the only make for me is the Teva brand, have you had your vitamin levels tested recently, vitamin D, B12, etc, as these when low can cause muscles to acke, if you have results post them on this site so knowledgable people can comment on them. All the best in sorting things out
You don’t give your results so it’s not easy to fully comment.
As a general rule your t3 must be at optimal levels before exercising- I doubt just taking t4 will be helpful.
Dr Mercola advocates intermittently fasting and there is a video too plus information on his web site. My understanding is that ( whilst it’s not for me) it regulates insulin resistance so again without your results I don’t know what problems you are facing.
I had muscle pains like you describe with one particular make of levothyroxine. Doing a comparison of all the ingredients in the different brands I thought it must be acacia, a filler used in that brand and not in the others. This was confirmed when I inadvertently took a couple of different things containing acacia, which both had the same effect.
It would be worth asking to try a different make of levothyroxine and see if a few weeks on that gets rid of the pain.
Did you have the pains while taking NDT? I now take NDT Nature-Throid which is fine.
Nurofen and other makes of ibuprofen with a shell coating contain acacia.
I also get the same type of muscle pains if I have any kind of alcohol, and anything with artificial sweeteners in it - which is quite hard, as even the non-diet drinks now nearly all contain some sort of sweetener, in an attemp to cut down on sugar content. Was looking for tonic water to treat cramp recently (the quinine helps) but every single bottle had sweeteners in it.
My theory is they stress the body somehow, but if anyone knows exactly what might be happening with them I'd love to know!
I had terrible pains in muscles and joints, and was diagnosed as having fibromyalgia. Personally I think they were caused by very low levels of vitamin D and folic acid. Along side menopause and a gluten intolerance.
I was prescribed massive doses of vitamin D and folic acid, for 10 weeks. I also took vitamin K mk7, magnesium, Nigella seeds, vitamin C and zinc. As well as finally giving up gluten. I now feel completely different, no pain and much more energy.
