Help with blood results

Hi All

I'm a relative newbie here !

Finally after 18 months of trying to get a blood test print out from GP I had private blood tests done.

I've no idea what they mean though !!

Vitamin B12, Vitiamin D and Folate could'nt be done because of insufficient blood sample so I'm having those redone.

Ferritin 60 - levels are 13 - 150 - so I think these can be increased.

C Reactive protein - 5.2 - mg/l <5 - comments say needs further investigation in case of infection.

T4 - 107

Thyroid stimulating hormone 107 - suggested levels 59/154

Free thyroxine 16.4 - suggested levels 12 - 22

Free T3 - 4.6 -suggested levels 3.1-6.8

Thyroglobulin Antibody 17.2 - suggested levels 0-115

Thyroid Peroxidase antibodies 55.8 - suggested levels 0-34.

I'm on 5g carbimazole every day for over active thyroid, I also have systemic lupus, Sjorgrens syndrome and I'm also a coeliac. For 2 years I have felt so ill and drained yet GP keeps saying I'm fine !!

Any help would be appreciated.

Can you please double check the following, something isn't right here

T4 - 107

Thyroid stimulating hormone 107 - suggested levels 59/154

I think the T4 -107 is Total T4 and the range is 59/154

so that leaves us without a TSH result and range.

Thanks for your prompt reply. Think I need my eyes checking too lol.

Total thyroxine T4 - 107 - range is 59-154

Thyroid stimulating hormone - 1.99 - range is 0.27 - 4.2

Free Thyroxine - 16.4 - range is 12.0 - 22.0

Free T3 - 4.6 - range is 3.1 - 6.8

Sorry for the confusion.

Yes, you're right. A minimum of 70 is needed for thyroid hormone to work (recommendedi s half way through range) and with your level it will be very easy to raise it just by eating liver regularly, plus include iron rich foods in your diet apjcn.nhri.org.tw/server/in...

Inflammation or infection can raise CRP. It may be that you were a little unwell at the time of the test. If it continues to be over range then your GP should investigate. It is possible that it might be down to the raised TPO antibodies.

Thyroglobulin Antibody 17.2 - suggested levels 0-115

Thyroid Peroxidase antibodies 55.8 - suggested levels 0-34.

As you are coeliac, are you strictly gluten free? That would help reduce the over range antibodies, as will supplementing with selenium l-selenomethionine 200mcg daily.

As I am hypothyroid, I don't know very much about overactive thyroid. Do you know what your test results were when you were first diagnosed? I only know of raised TPO antibodies being associated with Hashimotos and that usually leads to hypothyroidism. So I can't really comment on raised TPO and overactive. Hopefully someone else will come along who knows more than me.

Total thyroxine T4 - 107 - range is 59-154

Well, I can see why your GP is saying everything is fine, because all your results are within range. As you say you are diagnosed overactive, I don't know what the aim is regarding optimal results. I can only really comment on results for treated hypo patients and in that case these wouldn't be good enough. With a hypo patient the aim is generally is for TSH to be 1 or below or wherever it needs to be for FT4 and FT3 to be in the upper part of their respective reference ranges.

The only other thing that pops into my mind is have you ever been on Levo?

Yes I'm strictly gluten free ! I get such a bad reaction from a tiny amount of gluten - toilet and sink required together if you get my drift ! I've not felt well for 2 years but GP keeps saying tests are fine ! Never been on levo - only carbimazole but that was reduced earlier this year from 10mg to 5mg as my thyroid had gone under active. I felt much better when it was over active and untreated !! My cholesterol levels have shot up to 7.6 despite me eating the same healthy diet as when it was much lower. GP wants me on statins but I feel so ill anyway I don't need any other side effects. Thanks for your advice.

I'm a bit out of my depth here as I don't fully understand the treatment for overactive thyroid. If the Carbimazole had the effect of making you underactive, why keep you on it at a reduced dose? Isn't that going to make you more underactive?

I don't even know which members are overactive so that I can tag them in to help out here.

Can I suggest you go back and edit the title of your post, highlighting that you are overactive and need help with results, or even make a new post.

All my mind is telling me is that those are the results of a hypo patient that needs a bit more Levo, and that's not a lot of help to you :(

I'm really interested to see replies from others who understand this, so that I can learn from it.

Sorry for the delay in replying, had a real crap couple of days ! I'm thinking like you - if I stopped the carbamazole completely would my thyroid be 'normal'!!! With having systemic lupus I read on-line and also confirmed by the rheumatologist consultant that because of the heart ablation done in 2015 my immune system would have gone haywire, hence over active thyroid, Sjorgrens, coeliac etc. Lupus 'mimics' immune diseases and the thyroid problem could normalise within 12 -24 months. But am I hoping and praying for too much !!! Neither the coeliac or Sjorgrens is going to go away. Reading about carmazole the side effects are bad and it takes years to get out of your system. Endocrynologists are as rare as rocking horse poo - I paid privately to see one last year, he was so rude and disinterested and even replied to texts on his mobile several times during the consultation. Before I'd even sat down he said he'd need to remove my thyroid - no further discussion !!

I will post under a new heading for over active thyroid. Many thanks for your help and replies. Take care.
