To add T3 or not

Sorry, this might be a bit long winded.

I've been on 2 1/2 grains of NDT for +- 6 weeks, after following the process in STTM. I've just received new test results after increasing by 1/2 grain from the last time I posted. To be hones I feel a bit lost. From what I can see I could do with a slight increase in NDT but when I tried that I felt hyper, palpitations, agitated, racing pulse etc. But on the 2 1/2 grains I feel hypo, tired, achey, hair falling out, brain fog.

I have Paul Robinson's book about Recovering with T3, but I just cant wrap my head around it for some reason. I know no-one can tell me exactly what to do, but some advice would be appreciated. I don't know whether to up NDT and wait out the hyper to see if it goes away, or reduce my NDT and add in some T3....the mind boggles. This self treating can get on top of a person sometimes.

I am still treating B12, Vit D, folate, adrenals (although on last test those numbers were good) and have added in Omega 3, Mag and K2

Anyway, here are my results:

Thank you!

TSH *0.084 mIU/L 0.27 -4.20

FT4 *10.2 pmol/L 12.00 -22.00

TOTAL T4 70.1 nmol/L 59.00 -154.00

FT3 4.95 pmol/L 3.10 -6.80

RT3 14 ng/dL 10.00 -24.00

RT3 RATIO 23.02 15.01 -75.00

THYROGLOBULIN ANTIBODY <10 IU/mL 0.00 -115.00

THYROID PEROXIDASE ANTIBODIES 19.2 IU/mL 0.00 -34.00

Defectivegoose49,

Are ferritin/iron levels good? Low ferritin/iron can cause hyper symptoms when trying to raise thyroid meds dose.

My ferritin is high 170 range 13 - 150, as is my CRP 10.6 range 0.00 - 5.00.

Last full iron panel everything was good, so I guessing the high ferritin is because of inflammation somewhere. Could that be causing the hyper symptoms when I try increase?

Defectivegoose49,

No, it's low ferritin/iron which can do that.

If you can't tolerate an increase in NDT I'm not sure adding T3 to your current dose will help. Although there is scope to increase dose FT3 4.95 is good. Perhaps you could stick with 2.5 grains for a few more weeks because symptoms can lag behind good biochemistry.
