B12 low and vit d: Hi im new to this site, so... - Thyroid UK
B12 low and vit d
Can you post actual results and the ranges (figures in brackets after results)
Yes low vitamin D, folate, B12 and ferritin are very linked to Thyroid disease, especially autoimmune thyroid disease also called Hashimoto's
Have you had Thyroid tests ?
TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus Thyroid antibodies
Post results if you have them
Thanks for responding back, yes been on 50mg for few years now, I will get dr to check levels again, I get a cold chill down left leg some times which is weird so dr said could be to with B12. I know my level for B12 is (167) not sure about vitamin D. Dr as not mentioned TSH FT3 FT4 levels fir awhile butbwill find out and post when I do. Thank you
Read posts daily on here you need to know as much as possible about this disease
The only person who can manage it is YOU
GP's often have little idea
50mcg is usually a starter dose
TSH should be nearer bottom range and around 1
FT4 near top of range
FT3 at least above middle of range
Do you have high antibodies- this is autoimmune thyroid disease also called Hashimoto's
Essential to know
Very common to have low vitamin D, folate, B12 and ferritin
All thyroid tests should be done as early as possible in morning and fasting and don't take any Levo in the 24 hours prior to test, delay and take straight after
Daisy... being hypo means we are slow metabolizers and bad absorbers of nutrients. All this effects vitamin levels and digestion and every other phase of our being. That is why symptoms are all over the map and run the gamut. Having low levels of Vit D, B 12 and iron means it will be difficult to stabilize our thyroid medication dosages. Most of us have to work on multiple things while tackling our thyroid issues. We were a long time getting ill and it can take a while to recover so don't be discouraged and do study, study, study. Knowledge is power and most of our docs are clueless.
How much Vitamin D are you taking? often doctors don't give us enough to improve a deficiency.
