Doctor prescribed me iodine, but far less than recommended

I just had a chat with the rogue doctor, they suspect mitochondrial issues. In the mean time while I get my amino acids tested I am advised to take iodine, but less than I did before (150-350 mcg), they recommended as little as 50 mcg at first for long term to see what happens. I am also getting tested for other stuff.

Also in the mean time I am supposed to take iron, garlic/oregano oil for supporting gut bacteria and vinegar or betaine HCl as vinegar can cause uncomfortable feeling if suffering from yeast.

They say its unfortunate I am gluten and dairy free for years as that can affect my TPOab , but it would be stupid to consume gluten and dairy now to see if it would result in increased TPOab. If my thyroid levels do not normalize after fixing everything else they will start trial of levo. Otherwise it would have been started now, but since there are symptoms and test results that indicate mitochondrial issues these will be investigated first.

Glad they are, at long last, doing something for you Justiina and hope it helps you. Do let us know how you get on.

Yeah. That doctor is very different. I have now received proper instructions and iron is forbidden because of possible bacteria imbalance.

They say my symptoms sound like citric acid cycle failure so my body isn't using carbohydrates as fuel therefore my muscles feel and are empty.

They are optimistic that whatever I have is fixable and the root cause can be treated. Thyroid is sort of secondary at this point and will be the last thing addressed.

I am glad that the instructions I have got from them are easy to follow. Not truckload of supplement and very carefully targeted blood tests to point out the limping part.

But the most important thing was my symptom of empty muscles. As I described them that I lack stamina even though I would eat in the middle of physical activity. They say it's 100% citric acid cycle failure which then causes loads of other issues like malnourishment.

Will see. But the doctor sounded optimistic , positive and very encouraging. Was nice and easy to talk.

Will be interesting to try out those natural antibiotics!

Talk about live and learn! Can you tell us a bit about the Citric Acid failure treatment. Natural antibiotics sounds interesting Glad you got on with the Doctor and hope he can help you.

I understood that citric acid cycle failure is mitochondrial issue. Doctor explained me that it sounds like there is a hiccup in the system which prevents the normal function of cells -> food/nutrients not used as energy or build up. Eating only resolves the immediate need of energy.

I understood it's amino acids that are either missing or imbalanced. Eating doesn't resolve the issue as food not properly absorbed so amino acids needs to be tested to know what is the cause.

At first I am getting my liver and pancreas tested to see do I need other type of support for digestion on top of natural antibiotics and hcl. I have no idea does these tests tell anything about the amino acids.

I will know more at the end of next week. I am getting very limited and targeted set of tests , that's how sure they are! I will post about the progress as it might be helpful to other people as well.

I am sort of excited :D don't want to get my hopes up yet, but I feel good for now. They seem to know what they are doing and confident about it. Ofc I hope that in the end my thyroid will bounce back and it truly is secondary to other condition that is manageable easier! Will see :)

Thanks for your explanation Justiina . Hopefully all your testing is getting somewhere near the truth for you. I look forward to hearing of your progress with the test results and hope they can find out what exactly is wrong.
