Could these cortisol results cause problems taking thyroid meds?

Hello

I've been trying for a few years to get my health sorted: fatigue, hairloss, the usual suspects, including intransgient weight gain. My most recent tests showed high leptin and high fasting insulin (way over what they should be) so I have switched to a no-sugar, almost zero (once a week curry) refined flour diet. I'm slowly losing weight & no cravingsg. However, my thyroid problem is not going away. I've tried metavive, naturethroid and most recently T3. However each one caused bad pain in my throat. My CRP showed no inflammation markers and my ultrasound scan was clear, no nodules or scarring to the gland. It can only be a reaction to the increased thyroid hormone, so I decided to get my saliva cortisol and DHEA checked. The iron and other tests are next week. (This is all costin gme a fortune as my NHS GP thinks my thyroid is fine and I just need antidepressants...)

Cortisol results with ranges from 15.8.17

1. 5.21 (2.68-9.3)

2. 3.28 High (0.75-2.93)

3. 1.27 (0.36-1.88)

4. 1.34 High (< 0.94)

DHEA (am) 0.43 (0.25-2.22)

So perhaps THIS is why taking the thyroid tablets causes problems?? I'm not sure how to fix this. I have read a lot about low cortisol and taking HC or other things but what about when cortisol goes high?

I'm really confused. Will hopefully have iron panel results next week.

Do you take your thyroid hormones with one full glass of water when you get up and wait an hour before eating. Thyroid hormones have to be taken with a full glass of water as they can swell in your throat.

Others will respond re cortisol etc.

I had to stop taking them as the pain was so bad. It was ongoing and got to its worst point a couple of hours after the tablet (which I took on an empty stomch first thing in the morning, at least an hour before food).

If you swallowed tablet with one full glass of water, you shouldn't have had so much pain unless you have had a reaction to something in it, like the fillers/binders.

If you try taking an anti-histamine tablet one hour before taking levo and you have no reaction, you need to ask pharmacist to give you another make of levothyroxine.

I have taken metavive, naturethroid and T3 (tiromel) none of them from a pharmacist and never levo. My GP will not prescribe it. I do not know why I respond this way and nobody has explained it. I thought it was the antibodies in the natural products but nope, Tiromel produces the same. Three types of thyroid hormone, same result. I've not tried the antihistamine approach as I'd be getting up at 5am :)

You could switch for a day or two to a bedtime dose - if you wished too, then you could try the anti-histamine.

Nature-throid is hypoallergenic so you should not have an affect with it.

Metavive may not contain the thyroid hormones you think. It could be just a supplement rather than thyroid hormone repalcement:-

That's a great idea - I had not thought of a bedtime dose. My private GP has been very hands off, after initially diagnosing non-Hashi hypothyroidism. Is it worth waiting to get the ferritin results too Shaws? I know my FT4 and FT3 were very low within range so both are useful but I had a high RT3 - possibly caused by low iron?? It feels like untangling a ball of wool :(

I think most on the forum could pass a test with flying colours on the ins/outs of being hypothyroid and how best to recover. It is - as you say - like untangling a ball of wool.

And no, I felt unhappy taking the metavive as there was no stated range.

Guys. Cortisol is the hormone of adrenal gland right??

If your adrenal gland is suffering you cant taking levo. First adrenals must be treated...but I am not the doctor. Check this folks 😉😉😉

Cortisol shoud be checked daily....in the morning, lunch, afternoon and evening the same day to give you clue about your daily cortisol level....but do they do in UK?
