Two years on 50mcg only sounds to me that you are being neglected. Many doctors make the vast mistake of assuming that as soon as the TSH comes into the normal range (even the top) that we're on sufficient. Not so. The results are fine to be used before diagnosis but when diagnosed and given levothyroxine our TSH should be 1 or lower.

We have to read and educate ourselves if we've to have any sort of symptom-free life.

When taking levothyroxine preferably you should not take other medications too near as they could interfere with the uptake. That's why, after taking levothyroxine, we should wait an hour before eating. Medications can also interfere. You can get round this by taking levothyroxine when you go to bed with one glass of water. Taking your other medications during the day or morning, whichever you prefer.

Make a new appointment and it has to be the very earliest, fasting (you can drink water) and allow a gap of 24 hours between your last dose of levo and the test and take afterwards.

I am sure you need an increase. Get a print-out from the surgery with the ranges and put them on a new post.

If you've not had B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate tested, ask for these to be done also.

Is the headache your thyroxine or from muscle tension?

I know drink 5/6 litres of water per day as meds make me constantly thirsty

ThyroidWilma,

5/6 litres is an excessive amount to drink and may flush essential salts and minerals from your body.

I agree, Clutter.

Whenever drinking large amounts is mentioned, I remember this very sad story:

Olive2709,

Have you changed the make of Levothyroxine you take recently?

It may be the fillers that are upsetting you. Easy to test-take an antihistamine one hour before your thyroid meds and see if that solves the problem. If so change the brand and hopefully find one that suits.
