Eczema, Urticaria, Pressure feeling in Throat.

Hi

Three months ago I had what I thought was a bad virus.

I had my levels checked and my T3 had dropped from 5.4 to 3.54

Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies had increased slightly to just under range.

Two weeks later retested my T3 and it had risen to 4.4.

I then increased NDT by 0.25 grain

So presently taking 1.75 grains of W.P. Thyroid.

Since then I have come out in a bad rash with looks like a mixture of eczema and urticaria.

I also started getting a pressure feeling in my throat, sometimes the feeling was on the left side, sometimes the right and other times where the "clacker" is.

The rash and throat feel do not always come together.

I had the throat feeling bad two days ago, no rash, but today throat is O.K. but rash is really bad on arms and neck.

Could all or any of this be connected to my thyroid.

Thank you.

Lucylocks,

Where is the rash and how long have you been taking WP?

Started on my hands, now gone up on inner arms,

I have been on W.P. Thyroid for about 18 months so don't think it can be that.

I seem to remember one member said she has eczema and it went when she got her thyroid levels optimal, so I am wondering if my levels are out.

Lucylocks,

Hands and inner arms is more likely to be contact dermatitis caused by reaction or allergy to detergent or something you put your hands and arms in. Your pharmacist may be able to advise.

There is scope to increase dose if FT3 is 4.4 in range 3.1 -6.8. If thyroid peroxidase antibodies increased you have had a Hashi flare and that can make the thyroid tender and swollen. Are you gluten-free?

Many thanks Clutter,

no not gluten free, have tried a few times but I always seems to slip up. I need to give it a proper go.

Can hashi's flare cause the thyroid to feel tender intermittently? as some days I have the pressure feeling in throat, goes for a few days then comes back for a day or so.

All these symptoms have appeared since I had what I thought was a virus but my T3 dropped at the same time.

Lucylocks,

Hashi's can cause the symptoms you describe. If you're going to try gluten-free it will only help if you 100% avoid gluten. If you can't do that there's no point in simply cutting down.

There is no cure for Hashimoto's which causes 90% of hypothyroidism. Levothyroxine treatment is for the low thyroid levels it causes. Many people have found that 100% gluten-free diet is helpful in reducing Hashi flares, symptoms and eventually antibodies but it doesn't work for everyone.

Thank you for the links.

it is the peroxidase antibodies that rose, but they are still under range, so not so if this is classed as hashi's

THYROID PEROXIDASE ANTIBODIES 32.02 IU/mL 0.00 - 34.00

rose from 28

Lucylocks,

While <34 you are not technically Hashi but as antibodies are rising you are likely to be Hashi soon and it certainly won't harm you to trial 100% G-F to see whether symptoms improve.

Thanks clutter.

I am going to start gluten free after the weekend.

I agree I am not technically hash,i but thought about the TSH range and how many people develop symptoms whilst within the range, so this could apply to the range for antibodies too.

Lucylocks,

The virus and pressure you feel in your throat could certainly be Hashis. If you don't feel any benefit from G-F in a few months you can ditch it but it is worth trying to see whether symptoms improve.

Yes it is worth a try.

Many thanks Clutter.
