Just wondering if anyone feels like they have a lump in their throat.. it’s not all the time but I can’t wear high neck jumpers as it feels like it’s pressing on it. There’s nothing visible when I look in the mirror but I’m pretty sure it’s my thyroid gland. Is this likely to be something that will go away with correct treatment? I have drs on 30th so will address it with her then but just wondered if anyone else has this? Tia x
I think you would probably find many thyroid patients find wearing a high neck jumper would be uncomfortable
That lump sensation may diminish as your dose of Levothyroxine slowly increases
Have you had ultrasound scan of your thyroid?
No, tbh it was a symptom I totally forgot to mention in my previous appts due to fighting to even get treatment. I’ve not had a scan or anything yet but I will definitely address the issue at the drs. Glad I’m not alone in the feeling tho. X
I would ask for a thyroid ultrasound, and if it shows a nodule, also a fine needle biopsy. If your voice has changed, an otolaryngologist can look at your larynx as well.
Actually more than one nodule is a good sign. A single one should be investigated. In the US they used to do CT Scans also.. A UK family member says 40% of UK women have nodules. Her doctor brushed her off.
I had 3 surgeries., at 30, 43, and75. The larger nodule was benign, but I had 2 very small spots of papillary cancer, no radioactive iodine needed. I now have annual ultradounds of neck although there is only 10 % chance if recurrence.. Health insurance is high in the US, but allows early Dx and Tx.

Ah I’ve just googled it and I have wondered in the past if it’s an anxiety thing. As it’s not always there but does seem to be more obvious when I’m stressed. Having said that I do feel as tho there is a lump there but it could just be a normal thing that I’ve become paranoid about since I’ve found out about my thyroid condition lol. Either way I will get the doctor to do a thorough examination, thanks xx
It was something I used to get all to get all the time before I was optimally treated but was always worse if I felt stressed. I only get it now if I'm due a dose increase
Hi I also have lump in throat feeling it comes and goes. Been getting it for years . Have had treatment for overactive gland. Usually goes off when walking in fresh air for short while. Central heating aggravates it. Wish you all the best.
When i get tired i sometimes get a b=feeling some one has there hands round my throat and am slowely strangling me. I often have swollen glands too, that has been since i had glangellor fever when i was 15, since i have been on levothyroxine 125mg it has improved.
I have it all the time but it is worse an hour after taking my tablets like it inflames my thyroid. I’ve been hypothyroid for many months but am not low now but it still hasnt gone. I’ve posted about it on here too x
Oh that’s a shame it’s not gotten any better 😔 maybe worth getting it checked with gp if you haven’t already. I take my tablets at 5am and then go straight back to sleep so I don’t know if that’s what happens with mine. I’ll try and stay awake tomorrow and see xx

I have felt a lump or a tightness in thyroid area a number of times. It comes and goes. Sometimes I’ve felt like I’m being strangled. The doctors have said about Globus. No one has mentioned it being related to thyroid! (Seriously??!!) The last time I had it it lasted for a number of weeks.
I have had scan...revealing antibodies.
Recently an ENT appointment revealed thyroid nodules less than 1cm and not to worry!
It’s such an unpleasant feeling but am beginning to think / accept it’s all part and parcel of the condition.
I got that last year and eventually it went. Started again a couple of days ago, I think it's anxiety.
I am not living in the uk, i left 9 years ago to live in bulgaria, and use there health service, so have a specialist endocrologist who is sorting me out as i have diabetes i could not control caused my the thyroid problem i was only diagnosed in may 2019 so early days my main problem is my body temperature, and just tiredness but i am lucky i dont work so if i feel tired i have a nap,
