Still feeling crap......

I was started on 25mg of levothyroxine and retested a couple of weeks ago only TSH was tested and this had come down to Serum TSH level 2.2 mu/L [0.3 - 5.5] therefore they won't up my meds as they are within the guidelines I've also been diagnosed with low Vit D Serum total 25-hydroxy vitamin D level 19 nmol/L [24.0 - 167.0] I was given meds 800 iu daily!! So why do I still feel so rubbish? Would it be worth having my bloods done privately?

Debs1960,

The goal of Levothyroxine is to restore the patient to euthyroid status. For most patients that will be when TSH is 0.3 - 1.0 (which is within normal range) and with FT4 in the upper range. FT4 needs to be in the upper range in order that sufficient T3 is converted. Read Treatment Options in thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/about_... Email louise.roberts@thyroiduk.org.uk if you would like a copy of the Pulse article to show your GP.

Vitamin D is deficient and 800iu is totally insufficient to treat deficiency. Your GP should refer to local guidelines or the NICE CKS recommendations for treating vitamin D deficient adults cks.nice.org.uk/vitamin-d-d... Alternatively you can buy vitamin D3 without prescription from Amazon. If you buy on Amazon please use the affiliate link healthunlocked.com/thyroidu... My GP prescribed 40,000iu daily x 14 followed by 2,000iu daily x 8 weeks which raised vitD from <10 to 107. Vitamin D should be taken 4 hours away from Levothyroxine and T3.

Thanks Clutter do you think I should have private bloods done GP won't test again or do any additional tests even though I've told him about the grp and TUK all he said was I don't make the guidelines!! And being tired etc doesn't always mean it's your Thyroid!! x

Debs1960,

Why do you need additional blood tests? You need your GP to raise your current Levothyroxine dose. Point out that 0.3 - 1.0 is also in range and show him the Pulse article and NICE CKS vitamin D guideline I posted above. If GP won't raise vitD dose you can buy it yourself.

If you had ypur bloods done two weeks ago then you should get them done again in four weeks. Get the test early no later than 9am. Don't take your levo till after the test and fast having only water.
