I hope it's not a problem taking vitamin d,magnesium, and vitamin b12 together.
Vitamins : I hope it's not a problem taking... - Thyroid UK
Vitamins
Lisa-1967 I don't know about a problem but timing comes into it.
B12 (and a B Complex I hope, to balance all the B vitamins) - best taken in the morning, no later than lunchtime, as they can be stimulating and you don't want to risk sleep disturbances.
D3 - should be taken with some dietary fat, usually recommended is the fattiest meal of the day. Some people have reported that taking D3 in the evening disturbs their sleep. It should be 4 hours away from thyroid meds.
Magnesium - as it usually has the effect of being calming, it's recommended that this is taken in the evening, you don't want to find yourself getting sleepy in the daytime. Again, magnesium should be taken 4 hours away from thyroid meds.
Hi Seaside Susie, I also pop all my supplements together just before bed with no issues but then a tank wouldnt disturb my sleep!
I hadnt considered what taking them all together could mean beyond the Bs and folate together and the D with its co-factors and oils, could you cast your expert eye over my list too. I am currently on loading doses for insufficient B12 and defficient D
multivit
methylfolate
b12
b complex
d3 (in oil 50,000 twice a week)
magnesium citrate
K2 M7
glucosamine and chondroitin
cod liver oil
evening primrose oil
Many thanks
Phoenix605
methylfolate
b12
b complex
You could take all those together, no later than lunchtime is best. If B12 is sublingual it doesn't necessarily have to be taken with food as it bypasses the stomach (applies to any sublingual, the little blood vessels under the tongue means it goes directly into the blood stream).
How much methylfolate does your B Complex contain? I'm wondering if it already has enough so that you don't need the separate methylfolate.
**
d3 (in oil 50,000 twice a week) - as it already has oil, just an extra bit of dietary fat, eg full fat yogurt, is enough.
K2 M7 - this is another fat soluble vitamins, is this a softgel that oil or a tablet? If with oil, same applies as your D3, if tablet it's best with the fattiest meal of the day.
**
cod liver oil - as this contains Vit A and D, again it's fat soluble so take with dietary fat. Some people find that Vit D can affect sleep, so maybe not take in the evening.
**
magnesium citrate - evening
**
glucosamine and chondroitin - I don't take this but I've read morning is best.
**
evening primrose oil - do you take more than one a day? If so I've read to divide the doses and take with a meal.
**
multivit - generally a waste of time and money as they contain not enough of anything to help and frequently the wrong and least absorbable form of the ingredients. Is it a multi vitamin and mineral? Does it contains iron? If so that will stop anything else being absorbed. Does it contain iodine? If so that's not advised unless you know you're deficient. Does not contain calcium? If so, again it shouldn't be supplemented unless deficient.

I'm not trained so this isn't advice, it's just suggestions based on my own research and reading. You might want to look into interactions when taking certain supplements together.
Thanks for that I made the lazy mistake of assuming that as they all went together in multi vits there was no issue!
I have given myself a good slap, lol.
The b complex doesnt have any B12 or folate in, as I pointed out to GP. The b12 GP prescribed wasnt sublingual or now ive read the pot (another good slap) very strong at 3x 50 mcg a day, so instead of getting it refilled I have just ordered some Jarrows 5000s as i have seen you advise others to try.
I thought the oil based capsules had enough fat included so will try and add in a bit of cheese or someting to help especially as the k2 is a powder capsule. Once im off loading doses i intend to find some combined versions so I dont rattle so badly!!!
Thanks for the once over 👍
I didn't realise about the timings of the supplements‼️ I have been taking all mine together in early evening after a meal. I will definitely adhere to what you've said as although I feel 100% improved compared to before , I haven't been sleeping at all well. Waking up every hour or so. Going to try this for sure, thanks for the info 👍🏻
It could be the B vitamins and D3 affecting your sleep. It's not the same for everyone, as with everything we all react differently, so we change things accordingly. I hope you find changing the timing helps
Thanks have taken b vits now, will take D3 at lunchtime and magnesium this evening 😊 Do you have to avoid drinking coffee with all the vits or are there some that don't matter. I'm a bit of a coffee freak😬
I only drink one or two cups of decaff coffee a day so I don't have that problem
As coffee affects absorption of Levo, I suppose it might affect absorption of other things. I imagine it's safer to take your vits with some water and perhaps leave an hour before having coffee.
The only thing I know of where caffeine helps is taking paracetamol (or other pain killers), apparently it improves their effectiveness slightly, although I daresay there is some study somewhere that says you shouldn't take them together!
