You have given no information on your Profile about your thyriod history. i.e. when diagnosed, with what, medication dose so that members can respond properly.
Wish HU could block people posting if they have NOT completed their Profile š - I waste so much time re-reading posts in order to find some clues so I can respond in an appropriate manner. When I refer people to RELATED POSTS or to Thyroid UK I rarely receive a reply as folk just cannot be bothered to click or scroll. And so we just keep on posting the same old - same old .....
You are right Marz. Wasted time if Profile isn't completed. We are responding in the dark and asking questions repeatedly for different members who want answers but may not have given pre-information to work on.
Hi Shaws
I am relatively new to this site, but have not completed my profile (I will now!). I don't recall being encouraged to do so when I joined, nor was the significance of it emphasised, or the role of the administrators explained. You give loads of useful info and encouragement, so maybe HU need to change their initial contact with new members, to ensure that they take the necessary action to enable you to waste less time and continue your excellent support?

Some members are unable to complete or edit profile biographies due to HU glitches which despite reporting don't seem to get fixed.
oh god sorry. Just waiting for doctors to start my regime. Tsh 5.75 . They think I am at the beginning of hypo ,but its been since January I have been waiting. fed up with cramps ,aching bones and muscles.
You are at the beginning of hypo and you will get 50mcg of levothyroxine I hope. The guidelines inform doctors that they should not prescribe until your TSH reaches 10. Tell them how symptomatic you feel and I'll give a list to tick off the ones you have. Thankfully some doctors will prescribe above 5 and symptoms. I hope yours does.

Your blood test should have been at the very earliest possible, fasting and when you are on hormones you should allow 24 hours between last dose and test and take afterwards.
Levo should be taken first thing on an empty stomach with one full glass of water. GP should test B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate as well.
Hardly at the beginning with a TSH of 5.75. You are hypo as soon as you hit 3.
Also make a copy of the following if they say you cannot yet have levothyroxine.
How do I do that? Where is my profile?
I very much doubt you should be taking kelp. It's very high in iodine, and unless you have tested deficient in iodine, you should not be taking it if you are hypo. It could make you ten times worse.
thanks for that.will stop straight away.x
Noogens24,
I don't think it is necessary or desirable to swallow huge amounts of vitamins and minerals 'just in case'. Members are usually advised to have ferritin, vitamin D, B12 and folate blood tests to see whether they need to supplement. Amazon is a good resource for buying vitamins and minerals.
I agree with GreyGoose, if you are hypothyroid the high iodine in kelp is not good for you especially if you are taking Levothyroxine or other thyroid replacement.
You need to know if the cause of being hypo is autoimmune- called Hashimoto's. Have you been tested for high Thyroid antibodies?
Also get levels of vitamin D, folate, ferritin & B12 tested - very common too be low in some or all of these. Always get copies of your results including ranges (figures in brackets)
Keep a file of all your test results & make a note of how you were feeling at time of the test.
A spreadsheet showing results over time is good to show direction results are going
thanks. Xx
Read the info on the container really carefully. A good private health shop can be a useful source of help and information. Trial and error is important. Kelp really helps me, but it seems to make some people worse. I have found I feel so much better if I stick to a carb-free diet consisting of fresh food, ideally organic when I can get it. I don't buy wheat-free foods, I just eat a diet without carbs. So if I need to go out, instead of a sandwich I might pack a tub of salad, including seeds or nuts because they are filling. Or buy a tub of fruit. Most restaurants will replace the chips with salad or veg for you. I also feel better when I eat a wide variety of foods. Eg. my salads contain radish, celery, avocado pear, fish, chicken, a wide range of nuts and seeds, cucumber, courgette, nasturtium (both flowers and leaves), carrots, ginger, orange, pineapple, grated and raw butternut squash, grapes, mango, a variety of as many types of leaves, lettuce, Chinese leaves, etc as I can find. I also make various salad dressings from scratch, and use a variety of oils for stir fries. Also lots of spices. This all helps me, but you need to find out what helps you. Good luck.
I like g and g vitamins. Reliable and quality
