we only have blood tests for tsh and t4.

i also suffering upper back pains.My calcium levels are ok. Also my thyroid scar is more noticeable now after almost 3 months and still feels numb.ti have never had b12,vitamin d checked and i read in this forum that is important.
You'd be better off without an Endocrinologist who seems to be unaware what is the purpose of T3. It is to enter our billions of receptor cells to enable our metabolism to work and for us to feel well.
There's no history in your Profile, but I am assuming you have had a thyroidectomy?
In that case if he's given you levothyroxine alone I would think that you are not feeling to well?
Your GP should check B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate as well as your hormone levels. Ask if he would do a Full Thyroid Function Test (he may not or lab). TSH, T4, T3, Free T4, Free T3. What he doesn't do you can get a private test from one of our recommended labs.
The test should be the earliest, fasting (you can drink water) and allow 24 hour gap between last dose of hormones and the test and take afterwards. Always get a print-out of your results with the ranges and post if you have a query.

If you are worried about the way your scar is healing ask to see your thyroid surgeon for advice.
I think your endo is wrong about FT3. If he won't test it you can order a private thyroid test via thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...
Either ask your GP to test ferritin, vitamin D, B12 or folate tested or order one of the thyroid bundles which includes them.
Endo appointments can be very disappointing! I went with great expectations, as many people do, I'm sure. He was very pleasant but didn't test FT3 or antibodies. Then sent me a letter saying I didn't have any endocrine disease but I might have Polymyalgia Rheumatica! I didn't have any symptoms of PMR but he seemed to come to this conclusion because my ESR was raised.
I don't know how a diagnosis can be made or ruled out when the correct bloods aren't done! I do my own now, I feel very let down by the NHS, as I'm sure many people do!
Your post is heartbreaking Sewnsew. Medics have the cheek to keep banging on about depression when your post is proof positive of a reason why we could and do succumb to it.
It seems to me your endo isn't important if he genuinely thinks T3 doesn't matter.
Another diabetes specialist dabbling in thyroid problems, no doubt. I wonder how many people he's keeping ill?
What were your results for TSH and T4? And how much levothyroxine are you on?

I can't remember what my results were, I've got them somewhere, but I had so many symptoms. Luckily my GP gave me a trial of Levo, I increased gradually and he stopped me at 100 mg. I improved initially but then declined again. I put up with it for a while but I'm adding T3 now. Hopefully I'll get there in the end.
I don't go by numbers I always go on how I feel and to hell with the endo.
Find a competent endo. This one is either lazy or untrained. Probably specialises in Diabetes . Look for one keen on Thyroid. Google him by name and other endos and look for specialities.
