Thanks to you all on here I have got through the first hurdle of having some tests done.(Undiagnosed for years and have most of hyperthyroid symptoms).

Going back for results this week and would appreciate suggestions on how to deal with my GP if they are all within range.

I have had bad experience of the medical profession over the years and the very thought of inconclusive results is stressing me out already.... and I just know shes not going to believe me that I have been on a strict diet since begining of January and not lost a 1lb!!

Tests done: TSH, T3, T4,Ferritin, Vit D, B12 and glucose.

She wouldnt do the antibodies ones - said ' wait until these are back'.....

I will post the results on here though.

Annealise,

Ask for a printout of your results and ranges. Normal thyroid ranges are very broad and it's helpful to see where in the range your results are. Many GPs decline to test antibodies until TSH is abnormal.

'Strict diet' is quite subjective. It might be helpful to say that "despite eating xxx calories per day and exercising xxx hours per week I've not lost any weight".

Thanks -Was thinking of doing that before I've ever been near the surgery lol... have more faith in this site than my GP

Oooh, mention the word 'Calories' and they say 'you shouldn't be calorie counting and that you are probably eating the wrong foods and have you tried cutting out blah blah! The only things i havent cut out yet are carbs/grains(and then I'll be on that Paleo diet) - sigh! So bored of meat, fish, fruit and veg and homemade soup but my carb breakfasts are the only thing I look forward to!

GPs know SFA about nutrition. You should ask them to refer you to a dietitian.

Though they are unlikely to do so as you aren't a child with issues or have serious bowel/stomach problems. As in their eyes you are just eating too much and not moving enough...

Also unfortunately dieticians who work for the NHS must promote a high carb diet. Those who leave the NHS to work privately tend to now push a low carb one as they are allowed to treat their patients using researched based medicine rather than sticking to NHS guidelines.

Gosh I really feel for you...Exactly how i feel going back to GP for results, you know before you get there you will be told you are either "border line" or "within normal limit"...Make you feel you are a hypercondriac!!!....Like you i am constantly aware of my intake of food, but never lose weight...I have just had all my blood results..( read my post )...I asked the GP for a copy of them, i have put them on here, with startling results...Keep us posted of outcome from your results, good luck
