Pain in neck, ear and head

Hello,

I am new here. Need some advice. My husband has been having pain in the throat, which seems to go up his ear and head. We went to the ENT specialist who asked for an ultrasound of the neck. This confirmed some thyroid nodules. And the one of the nodules was 1.2 cm and was irregular and hypoechoic. He then ordered an fcna on the right nodule. The result of which came back as lymphocytic thyroiditis. He then referred us to a thyroid surgeon as the pain continued for 10 days. The thyroid surgeon gave us anti inflammatory medication for 15 days. After which, the pain seemed to be gone but it has been reappeared again. I have started to take pain killers. My TSH, t3 and t4 are all normal. What could this be ? Need a second opinion as what more should tests are out there which can tell me what is causing the pain ? My doc says I will have to take thyroid medication soon for the rest of my life. But the pain is bothering me..Please advice.

Thank you,

Welcome to our forum and am sorry that both you and your husband are having some health issues at present.

Regarding your husband's problem he should phone the Thyroid Surgeon and leave a message as to what the next step is.

Regarding yourself and your pain I am guessing you've been quite newly diagnosed with hypothyroidism.

You should phone and ask for a new blood test for thyroid hormones, as you are having new symptoms and it should be the very earliest appointment, fasting (you can drink water) and allow 24 hour gap between your last dose and the test.

Get a print-out of your results and make sure ranges are stated. Always do this in future for your own records.

Ask GP to also test Vitamin B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate at the same time as we can be deficient.

Gosh!! I have made the famous cut and paste mistake. My message was meant to tell about the problems faced by my husband and not me. So, kindle advice, why his pain is recurring? If he has auto immune hashimoto thyroiditis, does the pain come back from time to time ? We will get other tests done like Shaws has suggested.
