I am not medically qualified but understand that if on levothyrone which contains iodine, supplementary iodine is best avoided.
VeganMan First of all, multivitamins and multivitamin/mineral are a waste of money. They tend to contain not enough of anythinng to help, and what ingredients they do contain are usually the cheapest and wrong form with the least bioavailability. Best to test and find out where your deficiencies lie then supplement accordingly.
A good multimineral can be a good idea, but only if it doesn't contain iron (as that affects the absorption of other minerals and you may not need it anyway), calcium (shouldn't be supplemented unless you know you are deficient) and iodine (or kelp, again this shouldn't be supplemented unless you know you are deficient).
As Shaws says, Levo contains iodine (not as an additional supplement though) and common foods such as non-organic milk and yogurt, plus white fish, are a good source of iodine anyway.
tx seaside, but as u realised by my alias im a vegan myself, so its hard to get iodine from food, and the country im origin they dont add iodine to table salt, and as u said levo doesnt work as additional supplement,
HiVeganMan, I'm vegan too and I tried kelp and iodine, separately, neither helped and I think the iodine made matters worse. That was before I discovered this site, since being on here I've read much more against iodine than for.
You're not by any chance gluten and soy free as well are you? I'd love some ideas for breakfast!
I'm a gluten and soy free vegan! I don't take iodine at the moment, but I do feel iodine is important, so I may supplement in the future. I think it is bad for thyroid, but important for breast health ( not so much an issue if you are a man!). Re breakfast ideas, I have just discovered a few new delicious foods, bfree seeded loaf ( toasted with marmite or marmalade), also waitrose sell 'just' teacakes. They are amazing. I also noticed in morrisons today they had cornflakes and frosted cornflakes, both suitable,
