january9 If I were you I would hold back on the folate supplement for the moment. Wait until you get the B12 result. If that is very low too you should be tested for Pernicious Anaemia, and you shouldn't start any supplements before testing. You will get good advice from the Pernicious Anaemia Society forum here on Health Unlocked, so when you have the B12 result pop over there and post both results:
Vit D aids absorption of calcium from food and K2-MK7 directs it to bones and teeth rather than arteries and soft tissues. D3 and K2 are fat soluble so should be taken with the fattiest meal of the day.
Magnesium comes in different forms, check to see which would suit you best and as it's calming it's best taken in the evening:
Normally for a level of 28 it's suggested that a loading dose of 10,000iu daily for 3-4 weeks be taken then reduce to 5000iu daily, re-testing after 3-4 months and when the recommended level is reached reduce to 5000iu alternate days as a maintenance dose. Doctors, of course, wouldn't agree with this.
"Treat for vitamin D deficiency if serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25[OH]D) levels are less than 30 nmol/L.
For the treatment of vitamin D deficiency, the recommended treatment is based on fixed loading doses of vitamin D (up to a total of about 300,000 international units [IU]) given either as weekly or daily split doses, followed by lifelong maintenance treatment of about 800 IU a day. Higher doses of up to 2000 IU a day, occasionally up to 4000 IU a day, may be used for certain groups of people, for example those with malabsorption disorders.
Several treatment regimens are available, including 50,000 IU once a week for 6 weeks (300,000 IU in total), 20,000 IU twice a week for 7 weeks (280,000 IU in total), or 4000 IU daily for 10 weeks (280,000 IU in total)."
Considering your level is 28.8 then you come into that category.
Thats a child's dose. Can't you buy it over the counter? Not expensive. This is an old discussion so maybe you reached optimal. They recently lowered the upper limit.
That is very low and as others have said that is only a maintenance dose and so t do anything ut you need a booster dose. My results were 20,000 one day a week for 12 weeks then retested which got me up quickly. I'm told when I gave this advice on a D3 forum that was bad advice as it needs to be an amount daily and I much say the effects on my plan may me feel great on the day I was taking it so I only started to feel good on it after 7 weeks do taking a decent amount daily I. Ow reckon is the way to go.
What I was really wanting to ask you was about the 800iu maintence dose you were given. Is it Adcal? Mine was and I then realised it has Soy In it which isn't good for the thyroid plus my calcium level was rising till I noticed it was above the range! So on st ed I searched around for an alternative and now take 1000iu/day which alongside K2 is working for me. My calcium is now in range as well.
That's good but I did hear when I started on Vitamin D that the one the NHS give you has things in that are carcinogenic. As I get mine on prescription this concerned me and I kept asking what it was. I was told it was Fultium and they have something in them that's a bi product of something else that is the problem. Can't remember what now. I was just so pleased it wasn't mine which is Pro D3 by Synergics or something similar. It was the Endo that told my GP to prescribe it and then follow up with Adcal. So after finding the Alcal hadcsoy plus my over range calcium I went of the 1000iu of the 20000iu I'd already taken as my booster dose.
