Hi, has anyone found that taking NDT at bedtime has helped with sleep? I'm finding that I awake after 5-6 hours feeling that I've not slept enough and wonder if this is because the NDT from the day before has 'worn off' by then and therefore there's a deficit of some sort of sleep hormone

Thyroxine and sleep patterns
Some members have found that taking a night dose suits them better.
The T3 in the NDT (assuming you are on an optimum dose) should last longer than 24 hours. That is, if you are taking one daily dose. I shall give you a link and there are other topics at the top of the page which may be of interest. Some may not be available:-

Your heading is a little confusing as you state Thyroixine, whereas it is NDT you are taking.
I thought that Thyroxine was the hormone in NDT
Thyroxine is also known as levothyroxine. This is T4 alone and converts to T3 in your body.
NDT is short form for Natural Dessicated Thyroid Hormones (the very original invented in 1892 and prescribed up until the late 50's when Big Pharma brought in levothyroxine).
NDT contains all of the hormones our healthy gland would have produced T4, T3, T2, T1 and calitonin.
If you have your latest blood test results post them with the ranges or if you are due one remember to have the earliest appointment, fasting and allow 24 hours between last dose and the test and take afterwards and put them on a new post.
Thank you. Yes, I know what NDT is and have been taking it for over a year on a private script: Levothyroxine sodium 57microgram / Liothyronine 13.5microgram tablets.
I will post my next results with pleasure.
T3/T4 is a combination of hormones (both synthetic) but they can work very well together for many people. Levothyroxine can also work for many. It's just pot luck sometimes. Your combined dose looks a bit on the low side averaging about 100mcg levo. So you might need an increase but it's best to go by how 'you feel'.
I'm taking 1.5 grain of WP NDT from RCA daily . . . .does that sound low?
No because the whole combination of 1 gr of NDT from RCA is equivalent in its 'effect' to around 100mcg of levo. So you are taking the equivalent of around 150mcg of levo.
Sometimes a small (1/4) increase can make a difference.
When you wake up, is it an adrenalin surge? Sometimes your blood sugar can dip in the night so you get an adrenalin rush which wakes you up so you can eat something......
I always take my ndt last thing at night and i sleep fairly well..... If i do wake in the night i always eat something if i am wide awake. I have eggs, or ham or a hot chocolate.... Then go back to bed.
