I use it as a moisturise, it's quite effective ! I'd be very surprised if coconut oil could help with thyroid or weight loss. Coconut oil is the 'in' thing at the moment, hyped on the Internet as a magic cure all. By all means give it ago but don't get your hopes up!

We use it all the time in cooking but I can't say my weight has changed as a result. In fact I've never heard of coconut oil being good for weight loss. It's very good for everything else though.

The only thing that does help me lose weight is eating fewer calories. I only want to lose a stone if possible and find all other diets have been a waste of space.

So what I do is have 2 days a week of Slimfast drinks only, and then normal meals the rest of the time. It's easy and working, albeit very slowly...but then they do say that's the best way to do it.

I haven't personally tried it as I'm not a fan. However the woman who owns my local health shop swears by it and says she has corrected hers and many other thyroid patients using extra virgin coconut oil. She said she started by taking teaspoon a day then built up to 3 tablespoons a day. I doubted her and she insisted it was true. She is a very knowledgable woman and I have known her for 15 years so have no reason not to believe her. It just seemed too good to be true.

Crikey!

Even the thought of 3 spoonfuls makes me feel sick. It's quite a strong flavour and I'm not sure I could manage one. I buy the extra virgin coconut oil too.

But I think I'll pass on that, I think I'd like to watch her talking her full dose. Lol

I might try it again. I used to take 1tablespoon but then stopped

Hi,

I've read in the past that it is good due to it not having any cholesterol and it containing medium chain fatty acids that are converted quickly into the body for energy and not stored as fat within the body. I cook with coconut oil and also make my own coconut oil chocolates using coconut oil and cocoa powder with some vanilla extract and sometimes Zylitol for sweetness. I'm now experimenting with a 100% cocoa chocolate bar and coconut oil by melting the chocolate bar in the microwave, adding the same weight of coconut oil and melting in the microwave and then blending together and adding flavours. I've used cocoa butter in the past to make free from chocolate but it's rather expensive, and the new recipe I'm trying works out quite a bit cheaper.
