I know that some of you, can't tolerate it, which is a big shame, it's cheap and great, I use it everywhere as a moisturizer, save huge amounts of cash, and my skin is very soft and smooth.

I buy it at the Halals, where it is even cheaper than Costco, we have loads here in the West end of Newcastle.

I fry only with it, oil pull with it, put it on any cuts and bruises and burns.

Dr. Mercola does it again!!

You can also use it in chocolate cake - see Hugh F W's recipe, made with red kidney beans and almond flour and therefore a useful source of hidden nutrition for children and picky eaters.

Tastes a bit like bounty bars.

HI Aspmama, I am going to make a coconut cake, never yet tried the coconut oil as a replacement for butter, but I would think that it would make any cake very light.

I have to use gluten free flour, for one of my girls anyway, as she has full blown coeliacs, and we should be gluten free anyway. I am totally gluten free.

Tell you what tastes like a bounty bar, 1 tbs of raw organic cacao, and some stevia for sweetener, and a good glook of coconut milk, not milk, as it ruins the very very high anti-oxidant value of the raw organic cacao. Liquid nectar!!

Hi landocienne that's interesting just read about coconut oil and wondering if it would help with an unpleasant taste in my mouth which is either my thyroid being unstable or a sinus infection. Never come across use of coconut oil before, very interesting. Thank you

Oh, I know... I used to make my own fabulous choc with it [kept in freezer in little heart ice cube trays], fry with and much more. I do wish someone could say why some can't tolerate Medium Chain Fatty Acids [especially when they used to!?].

Nice article and lovely Dr Mercola again - thanks!

Hi Marz, yes I posted about the evils of statins the other day. My mother had dementia, but it was the statins that killed her. They are probably the most evil of drugs, huge money spinner, but at the cost of our health.

I know they do no good, we need our ldl and hdl, which are not cholesterol, because they are carried inside the lipo proteins. The more the ldl gets killed off, the more is made in the liver, and the quicker our cells die, because they need cholesterol to survive. All not quite as simple as that though.

Most sites just say ldl and hdl are cholesterol, but it is wrong. I am always reading, in between serving customers, trying to get my head around it all, including triglycerides.

I'm afraid the juries still out in our family regarding the benefits of coconut oil.

Have you all not had a good read about it, I have found absolutely nothing negative. Obviously it's saturated fat, but that's a good thing. All the old rubbish about saturated fat, has been totally debunked.

I just love the stuff, and I am ever so healthy with the addition of it. Food just tastes so much better fried in it, and my skin loves it!!

So is it that your family, don't like the taste?

in reply tolangdocienne

No it's not that they don't like the taste it's that they are all Doctors!

I'm afraid the medical profession are still out on the medium chain fatty acid issue!! And dont get them started on Dr.Mercola!.......

BUT Yes, they got the saturated fat issue wrong for 60years! Mind boggling!!!

Personally if I were you .......I'd just keep enjoying it.......xx

Hey u must have a right old task on your hands. Docs r the worst lol, not their fault, they only believe what they're taught! Not many Dr. Kendricks around, but I will always listen to every arguement, even America has now realised the lost health benefits of saturated fats, and I love loads of cheese, red meats and eggs!

It's great stuff, I've used it for almost a year now. I also put some in a little pot to use on my face and it does your nails the world of good.

Tell you what is fabulosooooo....try using some in the mix when you make pancakes.

Truly an awesome taste experience.

Besides the coconut flavoured variety of oil, you can also buy a plain one that doesn't have the coconut taste to it.

For anyone who doesn't know, coconut oil is solid but does melt easily.

ooh I would only use the virgin coconut oil, but my daughter who has coeliacs, loves her panckes with it, we only fry in that. She makes pancakes to my recipe, only eggs and banana, and usually some of my raw organic cacao powder. Going to make a coconut cake, using coconut flour, some gluten free, and instead of butter, use only the virgin coconut oil, I think that it will be very light.
