Does anyone use magnesium oil instead of an oral supplement? Have you made your own?

I use Magnesium oil, love it. Take care not to over spray when you start as it dries your skin out... I didn't make my own though...

Is it actually oil?

No, just mag flakes and water. I believe it is a humectant because my bag of flakes was always drippy, so I assume you could just pop it in a jar and pour the liquid into your hand when you need it. If you google magnesium oil recipe or similar you should find what you're looking for.

I agree about the skin thing. I felt like it made my skin feel horrible so I used to mix it in w my deodorant so at least I was getting a bit every day.

Hi

Yes I use Better You magnesium oil spray.

I have been suffering a lot of back pain recently and spray there and it does ease it.

It is a good way of getting it if you do not want to take it orally.

I have not made my own but I have read it can be done.

I use better you as well, I find it very effective. My mom uses it too it has reduced her palpitations and painful knees. Nothing else helped with her knees not even injections they use to sort of "oil" the joints but spraying magnesium oil.

Hi, I have given a little info for those who don't know how important magnesium is for our bodies along with a recipe.

Magnesium/Epsom salts

Nutrients applied to the skin are efficiently absorbed into the bloodstream. That is why we shouldn’t put anything on our skin that we don’t want coursing through our blood. And that is also why this homemade magnesium oil works so well: it’s a supplement we take through the skin.

What is magnesium oil?

Actually, it’s not an oil. It feels slippery like oil, but it is a solution of magnesium chloride flakes in water making it yourself provides a WAY more economical option. It provides the benefits of magnesium supplementation in an absorbable form.

These are just some of the vital roles magnesium plays in the body:

* Necessary cofactor for more than 300 enzyme reactions in your body

* Needed for the relaxation of muscles so it is a key treatment for muscle cramps

* Required for stable blood sugar and insulin sensitivity. Consumption of refined sugars deplete magnesium.

* Vital for cardiovascular health

* Key for balancing hormones for both men and women because it supports balanced minerals in the body

* Needed in increased quantities during periods of increased emotional or physical stress, since stress burns through magnesium stores

* Essential for mood regulation, particularly reducing anxiety and promoting a sense of wellbeing

How can you benefit by using magnesium oil? These are a few of the ways magnesium oil therapy works to improve symptoms by reducing the magnesium deficiency in your body:

* Supports overall health and a suitable supplement for most individuals

* Reduces (and should eventually stop) muscle cramping, including menstrual cramps

* Improves sleep, because magnesium is a “calming” and “soothing” mineral

* Very helpful in reducing symptoms of PMS including bloating, mood swings and breast tenderness

* Widely helpful for headaches and even migraines.

* Many individuals have reported profound improvement in migraines when they use magnesium oil regularly.

* A key part of any hormone-balancing protocol, because magnesium helps balance the other minerals and hormones in the body

* As an anti-stress agent in the body, it often promotes a sense of peace and wellbeing. It is very helpful in depression and anxiety.

Magnesium Oil Recipe

Additionally, the body will only take what it needs through the skin. Whereas taking some supplements orally can cause an over-abundance in the body, this is not usually the case for transdermal therapy.Magnesium Oil Recipe

* 1/2 cup filtered water

* 1/2 cup magnesium chloride flakes

* Spray bottle (I used a glass one)

1. Bring the water to a boil in a non-aluminum saucepan. Turn off the heat and stir in the magnesium flakes until dissolved. When cool, pour into your spray bottle. No refrigeration is necessary.

2. Spray it on to the body (details below) and lightly rub it in. It may still feel a bit greasy or moist on the skin, you can feel a little pins and needles from it but it soon subsides. For me, it is fully absorbed without a residue within a few minutes. Use anywhere from 10-30 sprays per day.

Hope this helps.

Brilliant thank you. Are Epsom salts the same as magnesium chloride flakes? ( I have some in my bathroom)

Yes it is the same, I buy mine in 10 kg bag from eBay, I use it as oil and have nice long soaks in the bath 😊

Can you buy these flakes from the chemist?

Can be bought from some chemists but if you have a "pound shop" handy usually much cheaper - as far as I can see identical!

Thanks foxglove :) I think there might be a pound shop in Worthing, next time we go over there I'll have a look.

Best shop I have found for flakes etc. is Bargain buys. Don't think they sell the oil but having tried some of the "cheapies" oils from Amazon I find Better You (the original ) best ... Unfortunately one of the most expensive but lasts a long time. good luck with whatever you find!!!

Thank you.

This is fantastic! My husband suffers from very bad cramps due to severe arthritis in his ankles. I've bought him Epsom salts for him to bathe in but he prefers to have showers. I'll make him some magnesium oil and then he can rub it into his ankles before bed. Fingers crossed he'll stop jumping out of bed and waking me up with his night time cramp dance lol!

I use the Better You spray too from time to time and yes, it does feel 'funny' and can tingle until your body gets used to you using it but I really love a good soak in a bath with a cupful of magnesium flakes and some lavender oil in it. I also try to eat as many magnesium rich foods as I can.

I found that apart from easing muscles aches, if I spray some on my legs and rub it in before getting into bed, it stops my legs from 'jumping' all night.

I've been driven mad by that in the past which has kept me awake for hours.

Ialso have a Better You spray, but found that it stung like mad, so discontinued use! Thanks for all the ideas of how to avoid that. I'll try it again.

in reply toChristabel

Did you use the original Better You one? I tried the one with lavender in and it made my skin itchy. The original one is fine though. x

I think it's the original one, but I read somewhere that if it stings it's a sign that you really need the magnesium. So I must try it again!
