Blood tests - fasting?

Hi, I am having my TSH, T3 and T4 tested next week. As suggested my appointment is early in the morning and I will not eat beforehand - should I avoid drinking water and taking my tablets until after I have had my blood taken. What is your advice - what would you do? Many thanks in advance, Wemnieflower

You dont need to fast for thyroid tests, absolutely drink water at the very minimum, but dont take your thyroid pills until after the blood has been drawn, as the levels spike for a short while

TSH drops after eating, so if you Don't want your dose lowered, a fasting test is best. :)

Some members do suggest fasting before a test inasmuch as eat normally the evening before and just leave breakfast until you get home after the test. Most definitely drink water and then take your Thyroid meds after blood draw.
