The results aren't very clear G. Can you move the page a bit closer please.

All I can say is to return to your dr as he'll need strong B12 supplements on a daily basis to up his levels. Injections can be administered if your dr thinks its necessary.

I'm afraid I can't help you with the other results as I'm new to this myself.

Can you take the picture again, and remove your husband's personal details. Cover them up with another piece of paper or crop the picture using MSPaint or some other method.

Your husband's results are absolutely awful.

High CRP suggests he has lots of inflammation somewhere. Unfortunately it is not possible to say where without further information and investigation.

The Ferritin level is drastically low. Your husband is suffering from severe iron deficiency. I suspect he needs iron injections or transfusions of some kind.

Your husband has autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's Thyroiditis) which is clear from the high TPO antibodies. His thyroid hormone levels are not great either but I have no doubt a doctor will say they are fine because they are all in range. At some point he will need thyroid hormone treatment. Self treatment is possible, but it wouldn't be a good idea just now - his vitamins and minerals are so poor his body wouldn't be able to make use of it and they would make him feel a lot worse.

The extraordinarily low B12 shows that your husband may have Pernicious Anaemia which he needs to get tested for ASAP. Whether it turns out positive or negative, he is severely deficient in B12 anyway and needs to have the deficiency corrected as soon as possible. If he has PA he will need injections for life. Don't supplement until after testing for PA is complete. For more info join the PA Society forum on this website, show them the results and ask for advice.

Serum folate is far too low and should be supplemented. I can't remember when folate should be supplemented when both B12 and folate are severely deficient. Don't supplement until your husband has seen a doctor.

Your husband needs urgent treatment to find out why his levels are so appallingly bad. He clearly has malabsorption problems. I think he needs a referral to a haematologist.

Does your husband have severe indigestion? Does he take lots of antacids and acid blocker medications?

Your husband must feel absolutely terrible. What advice did the Blue Horizon doctor give?

Make sure you take the results to a doctor as quickly as possible.

Hi thanks for advice ... BH gave similar finding but it's say it was serious just to make a routine app with doctor ... I'm not one for panicking but can you just advise I made him an appointment for after Easter earliest they had ... Does he require an emergency appointment or will that one be ok x

At my surgery I can phone when the surgery opens at 8am (on the dot, and I call again and again until I get a ringing tone and get answered - sometimes I have to dial dozens of times before I get answered at 8.20am or even later) and if I'm lucky I can get an appointment that day or the next day, and if I'm extra lucky I get an appointment with the doctor I want to see. You might want to try the same thing at your surgery. Better still - phone up and ask them what time to call to get the best chance of an appointment with the doctor you want.

The results don't merit going to A&E, but in your husband's shoes I wouldn't want to wait another 10 days or more before getting treatment started.

He takes lanzoprazol

That is almost certainly the cause of some of his problems. He has autoimmune hypothyroidism. That lowers stomach acid. Low stomach acid causes indigestion. People are prescribed acid-blockers to cure the indigestion which lowers the stomach acid even more. The older we get the less stomach acid we produce as well.

Without stomach acid we don't break food down very well and so we don't get enough vitamins and minerals from our food.

I forgot to say earlier.

With all the low levels your husband has, ask the doctor to test Vitamin D as well. Low levels of vitamin D make people feel dreadful too.

Not what you're looking for?
