Current medication loithyronine 10mcg twice a day, levothroxine 25 mcg once a day, calcium carbonate 1.5 grams 3 tablets a day awaiting a short synacthen test and advised to stop taking loithyronine for time being. Tactano, if you give ranges, I'm sure you'll get more responses. It's impossible to comment without the ranges. :)

Sorry I don't know the ranges just going by what he put in the letter.thanks

Hello tactano,

I have no idea why your endo would want you to suddenly stop taking 20mcg Liothyronine. This is equivalent to approximately 60mcg Levothyroxine and the most important hormone so stopping will bring on hypothyroid symptoms.

Unless he is hoping to stress your body so encouraging more cortisol availability ready for your syncthen test. ? ? ...

I haven't had a syncthen test so don't know procedures but I wouldn't stop my thyroid meds for anybody.

For a more informed answer, can you supply ranges for any of your test results ?

He says in letter to Doctor that as my t3 is slightly raised which is secondary to T3 replacement he suggests stopping Loithyronine and to just remain on levothroxine I only take 25 mcg of this, don't understand

The problem is, neither does he!

I can't comment on the ranges but I have had a couple of short synacthen tests. My consultant never advised me to stop taking my levo beforehand (was on 75 per day at the time). I've since been diagnosed with low cortisol after an insulin stress test (the next test after the short synacthen). My TFT was also abnormal so the consultant actually raised the levo (75/100 alternate days) before doing additional cortisol testing as an abnormal TFT reading can impact upon cortisol levels as everything is connected. Can you maybe give the consultant's secretary a ring and ask why you've been told to stop the meds? I do that all the time if I have a query about something in a letter, or to see if test results have come back, and if she can't answer she might ask the consultant for you.

Hi tactano

We were told that normal range was over 400. Values between 100-400 require further investigation (short synacthen test). Under 100 deficient.
