7 Things Everyone should Know About Low-Carb Diets

A very interesting article about carbs.
Yes very interesting. I hate dieting anyway! I still can't loose the 1 stone I put on after the GP stopped my Nutri and levo before I went onto NDT even though I am excising 5 times a week now. It is a pain but at least I am better if not totally optimum! What's a few pounds between friends anyway, better to be healthy and happy.
Exercising five times a week, if your T3 isn't optimal, is going to do you more harm than good. Because it uses up your T3, leaving you more hypo.
Mt tests last week were TSH <0.02 range (0.30-4.20), FT4 15.0 (12.0 - 22.0), FT3 6.0 (4.0 - 6.80) so T3 is towards the top of range, don't quite understand it all. Maybe I should increase 1/2 grain I am just worried about TSH levels?? I had no NDT the day before test and test at 8am.
Oh, whatever you do, Don't worry about TSH levels! They are irrelevant. A suppressed TSH when on thyroid hormone replacement, is of no importance - and can be necessary.
Your FT3 looks good, but the important question is : how do you feel? How do you feel after your exercise? How long does it take you to recover after exercise?
If you still aren't losing weight with your FT3 up near the top, you could have nutritional deficiencies. Have you had your vit D, vit B12, folate, iron and ferritin tested?
Remember, the blood tests only show what's in the blood, not what gets into the cells. If you have nutritional deficiencies, you might not be getting enough hormone into the cells.
Yes I had them all tested I think. I have to go and look after Mum this afternoon the results maybe on a previous post of mine. I was deficient in Vit D and now take supplements for that and selenium A C E, and CoQ10 and Nutri adrenal. Thank you.
OK, so I've looked back over your posts and found this :
Serum vitamin B12 331 ng/L (190-700)
Serum folate 4.9 ug/L (4.5-18.5)
Much, much too low. Both of them. And the range for B12 is stupid. Optimal is 1000. But your doctor wouldn't know anything about that, so wouldn't have said anything. If it's 'in range', it's 'ok' with him!
So, if it were me, I would be taking 5000 sublingual methylcobalamin daily. And find a B complex with methylfolate, and that will bring your folate up.
In fact, that's what I am doing! lol My B12 was 350, and I was losing the use of my right arm! Low B12 can do terrible damage, and cause lots of symptoms. But doctors have no idea.
Are you taking the right vit D3 now? And enough of it? That's important, too.
I am taking GMP vit D3 5000 iu daily. Is that enough? Thanks for the advice on B complex, yes GP did say B and folate were fine only gave me tablets for 1 month for my vit D and then nothing so I bought more myself. I can find Solgar sublingual metylcobalmin 5000mcg on line they also do folate 800 mcg, do you recommend take both of them? Or do i need another B complex with folate. Sorry it's all very confusing and I am so lucky there are people out there like you who can help. Tapped into my Dad's Internet isn't technology wonderful when it works! Thank you again.
OK, so the vit D3 should be enough. But you do need to take vit K2 with it.
I buy my Solgar 5000 methylcobalamin on Amazon.

If you take a B complex with methylfolate, you shouldn't need to take folate on its own.

I agree - thank god for internet!!! I wouldn't know any of this without it.
Thanks so much for the links I was looking on that site but wasn't sure if I could mention the A word or not! I will buy both now, and hopefully be as fit as a butchers cat. How is your dog still on the grass hopefully got some back now lol?
The grass is growing very well now, thank you. We were just out there, getting some fresh air. But he doesn't like staying out too long, he's a home-body. lol
Mine love it outside if you take them for a walk otherwise they prefer the home. Horrible weather here today wind and rain. Only 5 months until it gets better, think I should move to France and smuggle in my NDT!
Well, it's swings and roundabouts. It's been lovely here today, but sometimes we have rotten weather when you have good weather. So, I'm not sure it's a good idea to move here just for that! lol
There's always the skiing though!
Not where I live! You need to go South east for skiing, around Chambéry. I live north of Paris. Hasn't got much going for it at all, really. lol Except the champagne.
Not much point then not that keen an anything fizzy gives me hiccups lol. You commented on my post about my husband a few days back any ideas? Temp even lower now 36.4 and propanol not working. I read Dr Lowe report that says propananol is bad if it is thyroid problems. Dr only measured tsh which was 1.9. Dr P says 2 is borderline. I ordered full thyroid test off Blue Horizon but can't get the blood out of him and no one around here will take blood for a private test.
OK, so I've reread the question in question (!), and the responses from Marz.
Just taking the TSH is pretty useless, so it's good that you're working on getting a private test. Is it a finger-prick test? Otherwise, I Don't know how you would do it. I have absolutely no suggestions for that one.
Did he ask his doctor for the nutritional tests that were recommended? If your doctor sends him to get those done, you could possibly ask the nurse to take some extra blood whilst she's at it. Do you not think they would do that? Seems like a reasonable request to me, not as if you pay per litre for the blood extracted, it's just the tests themselves that cost money. So, if they're not doing the tests, it's not going to cost them anything, is it...
Propananol is often given to people with hyperthyroidism to lower their thyroid hormone production, so you can see why it wouldn't be very good for hypos.
A TSH of 2 shows that the thyroid is struggling, but he could still have central hypothyroidism, where the pituitary can't make enough TSH to stimulate the thyroid gland to make enough thyroid hormone. The result is the same - you become hypo - it's just that the thyroid is still perfectly healthy, it's the pituitary at fault. But you wouldn't know if that's the case if you Don't do the FT4 and the FT3. These doctors are so dumb!!!
If the T3 is low, it very well could have an effect on the heart, causing palpitations, etc. And people often find they are hypo when they give up smoking because the nicotine has been masking the symptoms. It's not the giving-up in itself that causes people to go hypo, they already were but didn't know it. And that temperature does look as if he is hypo.
Has he stopped the PPI? There wouldn't be much point in taking thyroid hormone whilst he was still on a PPI, anyway, because he wouldn't be able to absorb it very well.
All in all, I would say it sounds like he is hypo, in one way or another - but, of course, I'm not a doctor! But the most important thing now is to get that blood! Have you contacted all the laboratories and all the hospitals in your area?
I agree he sounds hyper hoarse voice and other symptoms. He is going to a BUPA hospital tonight that the GP referred him to on another matter so he is going to ask if they will do a test there and we will pay. When I was with BUPA they wouldn't do any test without a GP referral. When my endo at BUPA put me on NDT your policy no longer covers you as not licenced. So frustrating. I think all he can do is go again as you say you GP and demand tests but the GP last time said it was all in his head. Thanks for you help yet again!
You mean hypo? Not hyper? He doesn't sound hyper at all.
Well, that PPI is really worrying, I have to say. He really should get his nutrients tested. Even if he isn't hypo, the PPI is going to mean he's low in B12 and magnesium, at least. And he shouldn't be on it for so long. It's only supposed to be a short-term sticking plaster, while things are sorted out. And as for doubling the dose... I'm speechless!
If he were my husband, I'd be going to the doctor's with him and starting throwing the plant pots around! Your doctor is being idiotic and negligent.
Yes sorry hypo brain fog moment. Yes it was a finger pick test we tried but only managed to get a couple of drops. I will try the plant pot idea sounds good. His niece is B12 deficient so I have said say that as well as an excuse but whether it will wash with the GP who knows? I can't see that they can refuse tests if we cover costs, they should do it free really.
Indeed they should! But they think they know it all and won't be told!
OK, so it's a problem of blood flow. Did you try giving him plenty to drink, keeping his finger toasty warm, and doing a bit of general exercise - walking or something - to get the blood flowing? With him keeping his arms straight down by his sides, of course. One of those should work and trying them all together should give you triple the chance.
Yes he had drunk a lot tried hands in hot water for 4 min then 1 drop bit of exercise 1 more but the test says it is void if you can't fill within 9 minuts but at least they have refunded. Will go to GP with him and demand more tests.
OK, well, that's a shame, but at least they refunded!
Good luck with your GP!!!
No he is still on PPI the GP doubled the dose last week!
