changed from levothyroxine to nature thyroid

I have changed 3 days ago and am feeling very anxious. Do you recommend still taking half of my old thyroid and half of nature? I can't get a blood test for one month so I am stuck. I was so looking forward to taking Nature because the synthetic has not been working well at all the last 2 years. My hair is falling out, my skin is so dry, and I am tired all the time---not sure what do to? I was on 137 Levothyroxine and now on 97 nature. I should be on 90 but they do not make that dose and Amour costs a fortune.

Welcome to the forum, MyCatLea12.

If you switched from 137mcg Levothyroxine to 97mg NatureThroid it might be the T3 making you anxious. It's usually advised to start NDT at 30mg to see how you tolerate T3.

I suggest you titrate as follows:

Week 1: 100mcg Levothyroxine plus 30mg NatureThroid.

Week 3: 50mcg Levothyroxine and increase Naturethroid to 60mg.

Week 5: stop Levothyroxine and increase Naturethroid to 90mg.

Personally I stopped taking levo 3 weeks before I started NDT. Levo is T4 alone and can stay in the system for 7 weeks!

MyCatLea12, I was on 100mcg Levo and switched over to NDT, as per Clutters advice I decreased my dose of Levo and increased my NDT over a 4 week period, but found I was still suffering a bit and kept upping my dose until I started to feel a bit hyper and could not sleep at nights, then dropped my dose back to 1 and half grain (90). I take mine last thing at night but still feel a bit tired about 10 O'clock so I supplement with about 5-6mg T3 which seems to work for me.

Dont forget about your B12 and VitD levels.
