Vix, you are undermedicated. The goal of Levothyroxine is to restore the patient to euthyroid status and for most people that is when TSH is around 1.0 and FT4 towards the upper quadrant of range. Read Dr. Toft's comments in Treatment Options thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/about_... Email louise.warvill for a copy of the full Pulse article if you want to show it to your GP.
You can order a private FT3 test from Blue Horizon or Genova via thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin... but it's not worth doing until your TSH is lower.
If your friend can send you T3 from Greece it will be a lot cheaper than ordering online.
Should I be bold and increase my medication by 25mcg and tell my doctor I've done it next week when I see him rather than asking and reasoning with him? I've asked my friend to pick some t3 up for me but how many should I ask for? Also, I'm going around France/Italy/Germany myself soon do pharmacies sell t3 in these countries?
Vix, If you are seeing your GP next week it may be better to wait and see what he says. It takes 7-8 days to absorb an increased dose and 2-3 weeks to feel any benefit so it's not like you can shimmy in and say how marvellous you feel because you self increased a week earlier.
If you intend to add T3 to Levothyroxine a quarter/half a tablet is usually enough so a pack of 100 tablets will last 200 days. A couple of packs should last over a year.
As far as I'm aware T3 is prescription only in the rest of Europe.
