My Vitamin D was 52 (50 lowest) so my GP prescribed Aciferol High strength 10,000 once a week, in addition Adcal 1500/Vit D 400 twice daily (am menopausal so calcium as protection for bones). Think quality OK from any good source but it is quantity that counts.

What strength Vit D? I was prescribed Fultium 800 iu daily ....... it contained the Brilliant Blue dye banned in most European countries. Then a generic Vit D, full of other dubious fillers. After a very long struggle, I'm now prescribed Bio-Vitamin D3 from Pharma Nord; contains only olive oil & purified water. I top up with my own bought Vit D in olive oil to whatever I think I need. (Winter, 4000 iu daily. Had it checked last month & level is optimal. Calcium level fine too.)

Yes I have just read up about that after taking it for one year. Very angry, I am researching a lot and finding out the most natural with no fillers, and I know that they will be expensive but you get what you pay for. Absolutely horrified that that the nhs are allowed to dish this out.

Hi Marmaris yes it's crazy that something you take to. Improve health has potentially harmfully additives.I an going to take the dux 20.000 for 7 weeks. Then going to take nutri vit d 5000 as I get a discount with them and it'sonly £5.50 is for 60 tablets and they are good qualityx

The vitamins and minerals you get on the NHS are often poor quality (about the the same as supermarket ones) and contain a lot of fillers you wouldn't want to ingest (like sodium laureth sulphate), but you might not be able to afford better ones. However check if they are cheaper to buy than the prescription charge (ferrous fumarate is, for example). For example Adcal has calcium carbonate which is very hard to assimilate (just suck some chalk instead). Some things are OK. You need to read the leaflet.

Caroash, I was prescribed Prod3 for vitD deficiency. Very pricy when I checked it out intending to self supplement when the scrip discontinued. I bought other more affordable softgel capsules.

Hi thanks for that, I now have prescription its Hux D3 20.000 unit capsules for 7 weeks then Aciferol D3 1.000 units for 3 months.I'm going to look up what's in them.At the moment I get free prescription so as long as not too many nastys in them I will take.Apparently in Sweden docs send people with joint problems and Low. D to hot countries for holiday(medicinal) if only

Hi D on script is good, when i could take it it pushed my D up well.Make sure you also have a corrected calcium test as very important. The doc should retest both in 3 months to make sure calcium not over range, if it is D has to be stopped.
