hold tight joeltite, you've come to the right place here, as I discovered only 2 or 3 days ago. I've only just started finding the pieces that are fitting my health jigsaw puzzle back together. I still have a lot research to copy and paste into a document for my doctor. I was diagnosed Hypo in 2000 (only found that date out today) but I know what its like to feel s***t when you are confused /anxious and or distracted about things, not realising its your health that's the cause. There are so many knowledeable and supportive members on here, its amazing. Hang in there you'll soon get some more replies today and after I'm sure. Take care, Shirley.
Thank you Shirley, its horrid isn't it,I've had some great advice on here already but I can't take it all in,I'm finding simple decision making really hard atm, then can't get the words out that I'm looking for,my bad days are really bad and good days not much better, god knows what's going on
Hi Joeltite, had time to read some of the other replies - just keep taking the advice given - and the Vit supplements etc its the help you are seeking - so help yourself! Its there for you on a plate as far as I can see.best wishes and good luck. Shirley.
Thus is what Dr put me on 2 weeks ago with no effects yet,I know prob take longer but I think I should be on injections and he won't as he thinks b12 isn't to bad and didn't even comment on t4 so obviously thinks that's fine as well
joeltite1 - I can tell how unwell you are as I have answered your posts many many times. As have others. PLEASE PLEASE read through all the many posts in answer to your questions - read them slowly and write down a list. We keep giving advice - so please find someone that can help you. Maybe a friend can read all the advice we have given you and help you to transfer it into reality. You can buy B12 injections on-line.....
We so want to help you - but if you keep repeating the questions then we cannot help but think that you are not reading our replies. OK understandable - but it is time to move forward and take control. Read my last post to you - you wanted to wait until you saw your GP - well nothing has happened - so time to take control.
Yes I have read all the replys and looked through all the links and saved them to my phone, what I don't understand is why other people reults seem better than mine and they are getting treatment from their Dr and yet mine appear crap and they don't give a toss,do I have a thyroid problem or just the vit deficieny ? Why can't the medical profession get it rite,I get so angry its hard for me to deal with them
Joeltite, your doctor is not helping you. You should be having B12 injections and need at least 20,000iu weekly of vitamin D3. I posted the BCSH guidelines in one of your previous posts and suggested you show them to your GP and if he didn't act on them that you see another GP at your practice or change GP practice.
The only useful prescription he's given you is 5mg folic acid.
When we are diagnosed with an illness we expect our doctors to know how to treat us and many do get successful treatment with other conditions but with hormones it is a different kettle of fish. I may need a small dose of hormones and another may need a far larger amount. We use hormones differently. Some people are also resistant and it is difficult for the hormone to enter our receptor cells. If it doesn't our body cannot function optimally.
With low B12 too, there is serious consequences if it is too low. Neurological/nerve damage can occur. So your GP is duty bound to give you injections to bring your B12 levels up quickly. If he has prescribed cyanocobalamin in tablet form this isn't the best B12 supplement. It is methylcobalamin. Injections of course are cyanocobalamin.
You cannot compare others on this site with yourself. Many of us were very unwell until we joined Thyroiduk and began to slowly, slowly, find our way through the maze, as that's what it can be for some - a maze. When we finally reach a point and are well we can get on with our life.
If the doctor's aren't helpful as they've been told to prescribe nothing except levothyroxine. At least he should get your B12 up towards the top of the range. We then have to make a decision about our thyroid hormones and some doctors do add some T3 which Dr Toft of the British Thyroid Association suggests.
Most times, when we aren't well, no matter what suggestions are made we get confused and just cannot take it in. Also we don't expect to suggest to our doctors/endocrinogists how best they may treat us but might have to do. Never in a million years would I have every thought that would be necessary. They haven't been trained well with regards to thyroid hormone replacement and most keep us within the 'normal' range when we should be around 1 or below. They have been told that levothyroxine is the only thing that should be prescribed but I am afraid have no understanding at all what it's like to be in the patients' shoes.
Joeltite, you are entitled to a second opinion and should see every GP in your practice until someone listens and acts. If B12 is deficient due to malabsorption or dietary deficiency because you are vegetarian or vegan you need loading doses to restore levels high in range and can then supplement with methylcobalamin sublingual lozenges, spray or patches to make up for dietary deficiency. If it is due to pernicious anaemia you will need lifelong injections. Your IF result should be through soon, if your current GP practice won't give injections please find a new GP practice.
I'm hoping the IF is back soon I'm not a vegetarian/vegan so nothing to do with that,I told him this but he wasn't interested just hope the IF comes back conclusive is I've read its not that accurate !
Joeltite, you are B12 deficient whether your IF is positive or negative. If IF is negative it rules out pernicious anaemia as the reason for your deficiency but you still need B12 injections to restore levels.
