I believe that the blood tests for the thyroid gland were introduced along with levothyroxine.

Before the blood tests we were medicated with NDT and dose increased until we felt well. That was then the daily dose. It could be increased if weather was cold or reduced when weather was hot.

Two excerpts:

Dr. Lowe: With most patients, I use thyroid function tests (TSH, free T3, and free T4) and thyroid antibodies only for a patient’s initial diagnosis. Afterward, I follow the practice, in principal, of Dr. Broda Barnes—that is, measuring tissue effects of particular dosages of thyroid hormone rather than remeasuring TSH, free T3, and free T4 levels.

My reason for this different protocol is simple: the TSH, free T3, and free T4 tell us only how the pituitary and thyroid glands are interacting. Of course, the test levels may also tell us something of the influence of thyroid hormone over the hypothalamus in its secretion of TRH, another hormone that influences the pituitary gland's secretion of TSH.

and

Dr. Lowe: First I suggest that you ask your doctor to question the scientific basis of the endocrinologists’ notion of "fine tuning" by TSH and thyroid hormone levels. If he does, he’ll learn that the changes he sees in your TSH and thyroid hormone levels are probably nothing more than natural variations in the levels. He would probably see the same variations if he always kept your thyroid hormone dose the same. I’ll briefly review some of the evidence that your doctor should read.

TSH levels don’t significantly correlate day-to-day[1] or week-to-week.[2] One research group measured the TSH and free T3 and free T4 levels of ten normal young men.[3] When they measured the levels every 30 minutes for 24 hours, they found that the hormone levels were lower during the day and higher at night. During the day, the free T3 was 15% lower, the free T4 was 7% lower, and the TSH was 140% lower. When the researchers measured the hormone levels every five minutes for six to seven hours (7 PM-to-11 PM), the levels varied every thirty minutes. The TSH level varied 13%, the free T3 15%, and the free T4 11%.

Go by how you FEEL not numbers!! NEVER let your doctor alter your meds by blood test results alone. Simply do NOT agree to it.

Two 300 mg thyro gold tablets are the equivalent of 200 mcg of thyroxine which is quite a high dose. If I take any more I get a migraine. Just my experience.

Gizziesmum, were you taking 200mcg Levothyroxine prior to taking 2 x 300mcg ThyroGold? Dr. Lowe avoided specifying the equivalence of ThyroGold to any prescribed meds to avoid infringing FDA drug claims.

Clutter, I am on 200 mcg of Martindales starch and sugar free Thyroxine, I got the information from a post by Anuba of ten months ago she had been in conversation with a lady at Thyro gold presumably Tammy Lowe.

I find thyroid gold much weaker than Armour I started off on 2 x 300 and symptoms returned so increased dose and judging by my bloods then 2 x 300 would be too low for me my latest bloods

T4 34 above range (11.0-23.0)

T3 14.5 above range (4.1-7.9) not sure if i should stop T3

TSH 0.02 (0.3-5.5)............this never seems to alter?

the above results were from taking 5 x 300 Armour gold and 20mgc T3

now i have reduced the armour gold to 4 x 300 plus 20mgc T3

I am on two 300 mg of Thyrogold and when I am tested my doctors keep telling me to reduce my dose of what they think is Thyroxine because it is off the scale according to them from memory at 0.16 . I have refused twice to lower my dose, because I feel well on it.

Bossbird, Your FT3 is far too high and should really be kept within range so you should reduce your ThyroGold or T3.

Bossbird, I felt dreadful when my FT4 was 34 on Levothyroxine. Dr. Lowe advises how to dose ThyroGold in this link and there is a specfic Q&A on overstimulation about half way through the link naturalthyroidsolutions.com...

I so wish Dr Lowe was still here so many questions id like to ask, feeling better so staying on 4 x 300 armour gold and 20 mcg t3 until after my operation on Thursday then i'll re asses how i'm feeling the main worry I have is that the auto immune is now attacking other organs as I have pain and niggles around my kidneys liver and gall bladder. I saw my mum suffering until she died Dec 2012 aged 83 and she was later developing Hashi than I, thinking about it she struggled to get pregnant until she was 30 I started having children from age 20 and developed thyroid problems 10 years earlier than my mum so pregnancy must be the switch
