Thyro-gold and Iron - update

so after a week on Thyro Gold and a natural water based iron supplement I am astonished at how my constant yawning has gone away. I wake up refreshed after sleeping and normally, the afternoon in the office is so difficult as I struggle so much not to fall asleep but that has gone too. Also the day after my tennis lessons I am usually wiped out….not so this week. Bizarre! However as usual, one good thing leads to something rubbish! I assume the iron is making my constipation worse, have upped my laxatives to 3 a day with no joy…when I mentioned it to my GP she just shrugged as said well if you need to take them you have no choice. So I am going to stop the iron for a few days. I was taking it with Vit c etc but this hasn't helped. So I am hoping it was the thyro gold that helped!

Just out of interest I have just read a post on a website, admittedly an old post, but it says that Thyro-gold is very dangerous as it is full of iodine? Surely not?

Queridalady, Glad it's helping you. Perhaps it's the T3 that's helping with fatigue. There's no mention of iodine in the list of ingredients.

Contents of Thyro-GoldTM

ס Whole-gland thyroid powder taken from pasture-fed New Zealand cows. New Zealand is among the countries that has banned Monsanto's genetically modified hormone POSILAC, which the pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly acquired in August 2008.[1] POSILAC is a genetically modified hormone called "recombinant somatotropin," or "rBST." The hormone is used in the beef industry to stimulate the growth of calves and to increase milk production by adult cows.

In June 2007, the World Organization for Animal Health granted New Zealand the status of "negligible risk" of mad cow disease.[2] "Negligible risk" means that the risk is so small, trifling, and unimportant that we can safely disregard it. This is the World Organization's most favorable status, a ranking shared by Argentina, Australia, Uruguay, and Singapore. In contrast, the U.S., Canada, Chile, Brazil, Switzerland, and Taipei China have "controlled risk status." This risk status places restrictions on the U.S. in trading beef products with other countries. The restrictions don't apply to New Zealand and Argentina.

New Zealand has never had a report or record of mad cow disease and is free from other similar diseases, called "transmissible spongiform encephalopathies." The European Commission, for example, recognizes New Zealand as free from the spongiform encephalopathy named "scrapie."[3] Scrapie is an infectious brain disease of sheep that's usually fatal.

Thyro-Gold™, then, is clean and disease-free and will remain so.

Other Ingredients:

ס L-Aspartic acid: Please bear in mind that aspartic acid and aspartate are NOT the synthetic sweetener "aspartame"! Aspartame is a laboratory-modified combination of the amino acids phenylalanine and aspartic acid and the alcohol called "methanol." Aspartame is a compound foreign to the human body and potentially harmful to human health. In stark contrast, aspartic acid and phenylalanine in their natural forms are made by the human body and are part of human diets. They are necessary to human health, vitality, and well-being. Each capsule contains 100 mg of L-aspartic acid.

ס Coleus Forskohlii. Each capsule contains 25 mg of what is a 10% extract of Coleus root. Coleus contains forscholin, which is a botanical that accelerates energy metabolism and the breakdown of triglycerides in the fat stores of the body.

ס Vegetable capsules.

ס Silica. Silica is the element silicon combined with 2 atoms of oxygen. Oxygen and silicon are respectively the first and second most abundant elements in the Earth's crust.

ס Glyceryl Behenate. Glyceryl behenate is a "glyceryl monoester." This means it is derived from glycerin and usually fatty acids. The glycerin and fatty acids often come from vegetable oils. In fact, glycerin is the backbone of all triglycerides. Glyceryl behenate serves as an emollient and skin-conditioning agent, but it is included in Thyro-GoldTM capsules as an emulsifying agent.

Thyro-GoldTM contains no artificial colors, flavors, preservatives, expedients, corn, dairy, eggs, gluten, rice, sugar, soy, or yeast.

I'm hoping so clutter….with my cocktail of Levo (25mcu) T3 20Mg and 1 x TG I think I am getting about 31 mg T3 so it could be that :)

For the constipation, queridalady, have you tried taking some magnesium? Try magnesium oxide or magnesium citrate. It works for me! Most people are dificient in magnesium, anyway.

The post is probably by a pharmaceutical company. Particularly as Thyro-gold is an over the counter product. It was developed by Dr John Lowe who was an Adviser to Thyroiduk, was Director of Thyroidscience and it took him years to develop due to the insistence that levothyroxine alone was to be prescribed in the USA. One thing that Dr Lowe would never prescribe is levothyroxine. Below you will see his qualifications. Unfortunately for us Dr Lowe died due to an accident.

Have you tried taking a food state iron supplement. The body recognises them as food and uses it as such. I couldn't take B vitamins until I took food state ones. Most of the B's will come with Vit c. Although normally as a low dose. All B vitamins are water soluble so the body should take what it needs and you should get rid of the surplus.

Sorry i missed this query. Natures own offer food state supplements which the body recognises as food and you may not have so many problems with. They and normally gluten free.

Hi, I don't get constipated on Ferrous fumarate which I get prescribed 210mg twice a day. I take 1,000mg Vitamin C with it. I also take magnesium citrate 200mg and that has helped considerably with constipation. You still have to drink 2 litres of water a day though.

A lot of people have found going gluten free helped their constipation too.

I was using the iron in spring water, but the dose of iron in them is just too low.

It's encouraging you are less tired now!

I am also on throgold and feel much better as long as I take my iron and I feel dreadful if I miss iron for a few days so be careful. I find laxido works best for my constipation but a very good natural solution is linuset gold which you can get in good health stores. When I was nusing elderly people we had a lady in who was so constipated we were trying all the various medications at once including the pre op clear out meds. It was evenually recommended that we try linuset gold and after a couple of days she was functioning normally. It is a product made if split linseeds and contains a lot of omega 3 s, really good stuff

Here in the US we have a product called Miralax ( i.e. Polyethylene glycol 3350/Sodium cation/Potassium cation). I have a family history of colon cancer, and the gastroenterologist prescribed it for me to take long time. If you can find it this it should help relieve the constipation

I just started Thyro Gold this week in the US. Cost about same for what I was paying for porcine NDT, which has become unavailable. I was put on a synthetic version, and went downhill straight away. Afternoon naps, hair falling out, eczema, bad menstrual cycles, exhausted. A week of Thyro Gold with b12, D, and magnesium and I feel great! It’s only been a week, so let’s see how I do. My blood test on synthetic showed T3 ok, but t4 too low. Let’s see if Thyro Gold can work. As always with NDT, I find relief in the beginning, but a year or two later, the quality or formulation changes and I start going downhill. So I’m cautiously optimistic. Hopeful this improvement can last this time.
